Warnings about false teachers in the 1st century church

Satan was already well at work in the church, subverting truth with his own servants, and Paul, and John, and Luke, and Peter knew it and warned against his teaching.

PAUL PUBLISHED THIS WARNING IN 51 A.D.
2 Thes 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things?

MYSTERY OF INIQUITY ALREADY AT WORK:
2 Thes 2:6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

PAUL PUBLISHED THIS WARNING IN 54/55 A.D.
II Cor 11:13 For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. 14 And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. 15 Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.

LUKE PUBLISHED THIS WARNING IN 61 A.D.
Acts 20:17 And from Miletus he sent to Ephesus, and called the elders of the church. 28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. 29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. 30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. 31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.

PETER PUBLISHED THIS WARNING IN 66/67 A.D.
2 Pet 2:1 But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of.

AND JOHN PUBLISHED THIS WARNING IN 85 A.D.
1 John 4:2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God: 3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

It is no wonder the doctrine changed so radically and rapidly from Clement's assertion in 96 a.d. "Let all the Gentiles know that YOU ARE GOD ALONE, [o. theos monos] AND JESUS CHRIST IS YOUR SON, and we are your people and the sheep of your pasture" to the complete turning away by Tertullian who references a trinity between the 2nd and 3rd century.

This "aberation" was followed soon after by doctrines invented for the express purpose of providing the terminology left out of scripture.

"omoousian" for example, a term not found in scripture, yet was invented and used to "EXPLAIN" what the scriptures failed to discuss. One of the earliest doctrines promoting such error comes in the form of an argument about "omoousian" a Greek word from which is derived doctrines on "same substance" which say Jesus is the same substance as the father; equality, which states Jesus is equal with the Father; and co-essential, all are from the same Greek word made up by theologians. All of these doctrines are derived from the application of "omoousian" to scriptuire. And it is not found therein.

When the Emperor Constantine invited over 1500 bishops from around the Christian world to attend a council at Nicea in 325, most of the bishops stayed away because they knew what was about to take place, and wanted no part of it. They had already suffered persecution from the hands of Rome.

"The Trinity Concept" began to be developed almost immediately upon the death of the last Apostle; first appeared identifiably historically, in the council of Nicea in 325 a.d. and was still being debated in 451, at the council of Chalcedon. At the council of Chalcedon in 451 a.d. it was given "ecumenical recognition" as the "creed of 150 fathers" and accepted as orthodox, together with the old Nicene Creed, as "the creed of 318 fathers." And the battle was joined. It has not diminished over time.

After first convincing Christians that the best approach to teach new converts about Christianity was to begin with "the life of Christ" and proceed through a good application of chronological events, followed by almost any book of the New Testament, because by then, the damage was done.

Here follows a chronological list of doctrines and creeds developed over the next centuries, all the way up to 1950 with the "assumption of the virgin Mary."
