These pictures are very profound.
It is fortunate that these photos have survived. Most probably a million wet plate photos were made during the civil war on glass plate.
Popular during the war, they lost their appeal afterwards and so many were sold for the glass.
Many used in green houses. Over the years the sun caused the images to disappear.
These are pretty amazing considering they were taken over to 150 years ago:
Run the cursor over the photograph and the picture caption will pop up.
Click photo to enlarge and to read the rest of the caption.

I almost didn't comment on these pictures. If the confederate f**g caused so many b****s to get k**led just recently then these pictures are going to cause a lot of deaths to the black populace and I didn't want to become associated with this. Hopefully I can put all of the blame back on you. Very nice pictures though.

  I would be willing to be that there were more white folks k**led in the civil war. According to some historians b****s composed only 10% of the Union Army. The confederates only used a few at the very end of the war. The majority of the black union army, freed s***es and s***es deaths during the civil war were attributed to deaths from disease, mostly the huge smallpox outbreak that even spread into the native tribes.

Elwood, as a Civil War (there's an oxymoron) buff I've spent many hours in various libraries researching. You've saved me hours of time and inches of shoe leather, and for that I thank you. Great, great post.

Elwood and Linda,

First thanks again for these photos, keeping them on this machine I foolishly call a computer...

Only a small number of assorted people would wish to re-write history. I hope the do not succeed..

Also it is a fact that some find Civil War artifacts as useful symbols..and aint good..

With a bit of patients, this will fade away.

The Civil war is a huge part of our history and should not be suppressed or re-written in any way...

Keep all the symbols, but display them in a well mannered fashion..
