How does it float?

If you watch the TV series; "Big bang theory" in a couple of sessions Sheldon talks about computing the amount of gold in the kings crown, while taking a bath.

Using the same theory then see if you can explain if, and why a concrete boat can or cannot float and the theory behind it.

It ain't Boyle's law, so what is it and how does it work?

It is displacement. The same thing that makes anything float.
If the boat displaces more water (by weight) than it weighs, it will float. Second grade science class 1949, Atlanta, GA

Indeed you are correct Tom. Another example of a proper education from down South.... (of course there are doubts about Atlanta today)

Continuing then: Extrapolate further the mechanics of both floating, and submerging a submarine and how displacement is utilized. Note: that when we consider Boyle's law, a sub requires that one atm pressure be maintained inside the hull while submerged. Therefore you cannot change the interior volume and the hull must resist changes in transmitting pressure. How does it do that?

Ps. You forgot to give credit to the originator of displacement and what else he, or she, may have contributed to science. Go ahead, move the world with your wisdom.

Come on, you cannot be serious. If you are (and I doubt it) you need to go back to school.
I shouldn't even dignify your comment with this, but I will.

Why does a rock sink?
Why does a balloon float even if they weigh the same?
ans...Displacement.
Please go back to your rabbit pen and gobble another handful of smart pills. The last ones you ate didn't help you a bit.
If you have eaten all of Mr. Cotton Tail's smart pills, you might consider getting your mommy or daddy to read from an encyclopedia, that is, if they can read. Maybe you were home schooled by idiots. But I still think you are BS-ing. If you were really that dumb, you couldn't feed yourself, or do your parents feed and dress you too?

Really tom? If you cannot provide the answer, perhaps someone much smarter than you can.

Nope!!! You just need to get some with an IQ greater than 13 to to read the the answer to you. I'm sorry, but I just cannot stoop to your level of "intelligence". Maybe when you get in the second grade, your teacher will have enough experience with retards to explain it in a language you can understand.
I just read what I wrote to a seven year old girl and she understood it. And he asked, "If I fill the balloon with water, then will it sink like a submarine does when the ballast tanks are blown?"

Tom. The chap I wanted you to identify as having defined buoyancy (the name which you could not come up with) was Archimedes.

No sweat however; life is just to short to put up with ignorant self-important twits like you anyway, so go home, grow up, and come back when you have some common sense to go with that bloated self ego.

Goodby..... (yawn)

You asked what is it and how does it work?
What it is, is Displacement.
How it works is when an object displaces more water (by weight), than that object weighs, the object floats.
I just cannot get down to your level of intellect (or lack of same) and explain it any simpler. I quit speaking "baby talk" nearly 70 years ago. Maybe you can find a one year old who translate for you. Please don't reproduce, the world is in bad enough shape with only one of you.

one little problem a sub doesn't sink when you blow ballast, it floats, the ballast makes it sink
