I love the song and never manage to hear many versions of it without tearing up. Here is a chance to hear a lovely woman playing it on the violin being accompanied by one of my favorite politicians of the past few years.

After you hear this rendition try the other one on the page. When I hear the piece played by bagpipes I just never manage not to tear up and a much more simple pipe is used in this piece.

It is a beautiful piece of music, President Obama led the congregation in singing Amazing Grace while giving the eulogy for Reverand Pickney who was slain in the terrorist attack in South Carolina. It provided a thoughtful moment of healing at a time of tragedy. Great works of art are truly capable of moving us and reminding us of our humanity.

I think it touches my soul,
like the Star Spangled Banner does.
It is Sooo American

I don't get past the first 10 words without tears.

Did Obama do this before or after he preached his anti-gun message? I didn't hear all of it because he was so busy trying to find a reason to get my gun which I won't give up without a fight.

I wondered if he was giving a eulogy or working as an anti-gun person so I stopped listening when he got baaaaaad.

I usually make it farther than that on videos since the pictures make so much need for tears to be necessary.

I have always wanted Amazing Grace and Ave Maria played at my memorial. I've not thought of whom I would like to be playing and singing. I hope there is a bit more time to decide. I love them both, and always in tears when I hear the beauty and simplicity. President Obama was at his best when he eulogized the Reverend, and it was authentic and impromtu. He was not contriving. It was spontaneous, and clearly moved all in the AME Emmanuel Church that day. He wasn't a Jesse Jackson or anyone else. He was a "wretch" like we are. Lost, and found, blind, but now we see. Such promise. Such faith. Ave Maria may seem odd to those who know I'm not Catholic, but I suppose I am catholic (small letters) in my extended views. Thank you, Old Roy. :) :!:

I sing all six verses in worship every day.

Is your HE old I Won? Somehow I think it is and he turned me off with that one and his attempts to get people on his side. He was only interested in convincing people that we gun owners should give our guns to him for wh**ever purpose. He shut me down so I missed all the rest of his message.

Amadeus, how many (truly) would take that good look into their hearts, OUR hearts. The hatred, like the lovely
lotus, has long, tenacious roots, and forgiveness is in very small to negligent attainment.

We're like John Lennon singing, Let It Be. There shall be an answer, Let It Be. Mother Mary will not be coming to the ingrained hatred in the hearts of far too many. Sad sad sad. This love and forgiveness is by far a pipe-dream. I wish it were not so. I've always prayed for myself and others - to be full of loving kindess, for all. Even the oligarchs. ISIS. Yes, I do.

If you like the bagpipes, this one will bring the tears, along with showing you beautiful scenery.

My father was the type of man who forgave readily, I never heard him say a bad word about anyone, he was generous and kind. I've told this before, he died just a few days before Christmas. We lived in Wisconsin, and that was one of those winters that had just enough snow on the ground, and the air was just right every day was socked in with thick fog. The day he was buried, the fog lifted, the next day it socked in again. In my heart, I believe the Lord was saying 'well done, good and faithful servant.' He was not a saint, so we all have hope, but he was a good man.
