Due to problems in Greece, my daughter and I returned early. We decided to drive home from JFK. My daughter is a teenager and true to form, she is always hungry. We stopped at a eat in diner. Well for the past 40 years, as part of my Tzedakah I pay for someone else's meal. I do not select the person, I leave it to the wait staff. Well, I decided that it was time to show my thanks to God for a successful trip to Greece and a safe landing, so I had the waitress give me the check for a table. When the waitress told the customer that her meal had been paid for, the husband smiled, the woman got up and came toward my daughter and I, I though that she was just a lady with manners and wanted to say thank you. Boy was I wrong! She balled up her fist and hit me square in the face while shouting at me all nature of obscenities. How dare you......

Needless to say..... I think I will just find another way of paying Tzedakah!

See how horrible things are?

Maybe next time chose a gay couple or aethist. They don't have guts enough to hit. They just lecture you about the fairy God in the sky's nonexistence.

We know better about.

NO WAY!!?? She HIT you? OH!!!! I won't hit a woman but Mrs. B. damn sure will!! That gal should have had her, grrrr! backside whipped, and had a good taste of asphalt from the parking lot!! Her companion just sat there and watched it happen? If so he might just need to be rolled in the dirt by a man with a spine!! And a pair of hard fists!! ok rant over.

At the store where I stop every morning, I maintain a 20.00 tab with the manager to pay for coffee/drinks, etc. for police, firefighters, and EMTS. Debbie lets me know when I need to re-up to handle it. That is how I do it.
Bless you for doing what you do!!

Would you give Duckie a hug from the Bunkers?

Now...now, you need to do it with all your donations all year long. You cannot be picking and choosing. I mean, really.....you think those dollars are yours? Just because you worked nine or more hours per day to earn them does not mean you are entitled to them. :hunf:

What all happened on the successful trip to Greece that made God figure you needed a punch in the nose?

Yes it did and I have a bruise to show. It was quick, I think her husband was expecting her to just say thank you or something..... anyway, my attention was on the woman, worried what she was going to do next, but Ducks says the husband looked to be in shock. A guy sitting at the next table jumped up and prevented the woman from doing more.... I was just shocked. I did not know what to do. And honestly, she scared me! The woman's husband d**gged her out the door. And she was still swearing at me, damning me to hell for my nerve of thinking she needed or wanted my charity.... among other choice words. What makes it worse, she was so young; perhaps 22 or so. And like I said, I never pick the person I leave it to the wait staff. I would have liked to have been a fly on the wall when she discussed this with her husband (I assume he was, they were both wearing wedding rings). Oh well, maybe she was just having a bad day or had other problems. I like to think that there is always a logical reason for such things. But....I learned my lesson well!!

Your method is much safer!!! I think that I will do that instead.

Duckie has been a busy girl. We have been on a dig near the Parthenon and she caught on so fast!! And she made some nice Greek friends and is now "tourist" qualified in Greek. You would be so proud of her, not a day passes that I do not thank God and his wisdom for putting us together. She is off to college this year, having a 3.8 GPA and scoring over 2100 on her SAT; Critical Reading, Math, and Writing. Her low score was in writing, but she is working on that. Quite the accomplishment if you remember that she had to be "caught up" when she first came to us. When she gets back from visiting her friends, I will give her your hug and I know that she will be delighted!

Sometimes people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time. Perhaps I needed humbling.... I do not pretend to understand why things happen, either good or bad. Perhaps the woman was just having a real bad day or something bad had happened to her to make her strike out. Who knows. It is done, and I came out with only a bruise ..... and a good lesson learned. BTW, although my nose would be hard to miss (being Jewish), she landed her punch on my check and jaw. It hurt!!!

Hello AuntiE.... so good to see you. How are you doing? I have been hit and miss on OPP, being that there was a 9 hour difference in time.... The trip was good and Duckie was our star intern!! You would be so proud of her!! Anyway, I do make sure I am consistent with donations, but this one was a special thanks to God for a good trip and a safe landing. Normally, every 10th visit to such a place I pay the bill of someone else. It is just, what I thought, a good way to share. Needless to say, lesson learned!!

Thanks Lily,

I guess this is one habit I will abandon. Archie had a good suggestion. But, the recommendation about the tolls.... they might get road rage and chase me down.....

That's a good attitude. But what I was wondering is if maybe God wanted you to put a teensy bit more thought into it than the convenience of going out to eat and letting someone else choose? Maybe something that makes you have to go out of your way or cramp you routine.

Like you wrote, who knows?

Perhaps you are right. Or perhaps, as I said, I needed to be humbled. I will never know. But, I am now going to adopt Archie's recommendation...... There is a diner in our town, and our police personnel stop in for their Joe.... a gift to them would be a way of telling them that their service is appreciated. Our firemen are all volunteers.....tiny town. So there is not one place they stop in, else I would make the donation for both fire and police.
