I have a suggestion for a solution to r****m. Take the worst white r****t you can find and the worst black r****t, have them go into a church and kneel & pray for fifteen or twenty minutes. Then have them go out and still try to h**e each other. It's still possible but a lot more difficult.

I suggested that to a fellow Catholic who is black. He said that if they did it repeatedly, one of two things would happen; either the hatred would have to go or the praying would have to go.

No civil rights laws necessary. No commissions to study the problem. No Rev. Jesse or Rev. Al or Maxine Waters or Nancy Pelosi etc. Just pray together.

Comments welcome.

That would work - except for the "have them" part. We cannot compel anyone to do anything they don't WANT to do. That's why civil rights laws are useless for changing peoples attitudes and philosophies. They are only valuable for prosecutions and even there, the interpretations of the law is all over the place.

I personally know r****t people. Some are white and some are black. What they all have in common, is a reluctance, even refusal, to consider changing their attitudes. They revel in finding examples of behavior that "prove" that they are justified in their attitude - ignoring completely, any evidence to the contrary.

Perhaps, if w****s stopped talking about "b****s" and b****s stopped talking about "w****s" - and started referring to each other as equal American citizens - we might begin to change the narratives. Perhaps, w****s should begin referring to themselves as W***e A******ns, thus pointing out the error of including color in one's descriptor - we might begin to play down color as a determining factor.

I would rather see b****s be proud of being an American, rather than be proud of being black ahead of that. Descriptions such as "African American" or "B***k A******n", leads one to conclude that the individual is African or Black first, American last. In short, you cannot set yourself apart - and be included at the same time.

B****s have got to meet w****s at least half way. S***ery is over and should no longer be part of the conversation. B****s must get over it already and join the Union - as simply Americans - who happen to be black skinned.

YES, well said Rod!!!!!!!
The very people who formed this nation prayed at every public event from day one at Plymouth Rock in 1620,
and has been carried thru to this Friday morning-19/6/2015 in the opening of U.S. senate proceedings(it's now Sunday 20th).
OUR nation was formed with, from+on prayer! The lack-of-reverence for the Holiness+Love beyond us divides us- where the acknowledgement would unite us!

Certainly this is with freedom under Liberty to choose to if, when and how; but it was always to the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob thru that Son of Promise as the Savior- Jesus the Christ and by the price of His blood given as a propitiation for our lost, sinful, and selfish hearts by the greatest gift, ransom and price ever conceived or paid by man or God and a Love that precedes creation and carries over to worlds yet to be created into all eternity future dwarfing even creation by transcending space and time.
-ACKNOWLEDGING THIS MAKES IT HARD TO H**E ONE ANOTHER -

It would help unite the people of OUR nation; making revival the only uniting power bigger than OUR human laws. Originating with the Pilgrim's, then forming Independence from out of the 1st+2nd Great-Awakenings OUR nation emerged, then prospered(after prolonged entreaty of George-III + later an un-Civil War) ~!

I don't believe you would get them into the church without force, you wouldn't get them to pray without threats, and I doubt they'd pray even then, and if they DID pray, it woudn't be sincere. I suspect insincere prayers are not heard by God. And I suspect God frowns on force. Besides not helping them, or the nation, I think you would be harming your own standing with God.

I think what Christians overlook sometimes is that God gave us free will for a purpose. He wanted to know what HE allows into Heaven, and free will shows him that in a most definitive way. But don't take my word for it. I left the church. I am tight with God, but not with churches.

A simple cure for r****m would be to make the two words, black and white, illegal to speak or write. Doing so would send you to the pen for decades. It IS an infringement on free speech, but r****m k**ls all that is good anyway.....we have proven we cannot handle freedoms very well, and most Americans don't even know what freedom is, so I suggest erasing the words black and white from the language.

The REAL answer would be to jail all the race baiters for attempting to start a r**t. And every time arrested for that crime, the jail time would be longer.

I should have added that I, in no way, advocate forcing anyone to do that & I concede that forcing them to do it would result, at least initially, in insincere prayer & that God wouldn't hear it. I am speaking hypothetically.

It would be interesting though to have them do it on a protracted basis. As my fellow Catholic said, eventually either the hatred would go or the prayer. They could not continue it indefinitely.

I point out that there have been cases where people have vandalized synagogees and Jewish cemeteries with swatikas and they judge sentenced them to community service with a rabbi. I don't know the outcome.

I believe the cure for r****m is very simple. Listen to the other person with an open mind. Know what you'll find? Weather black, white, Asian,Native American or any other race we all want basically the same things. We would like to be respected as fellow human beings, give our children a better life, have our hard work pay off for our families, and be treated with dignity.

I am part of the human race and so are you. Color makes no difference.

Yesterday, Juneteenth was celebrated here. It is the oldest known celebration commemorating the ending of s***ery in the United States. Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the ens***ed were now free.

You have to put action to your words to achieve anything. There were several white families that came to their celebration to enjoy it with them, my daughter and I were among them. We happen to know some wonderful black families, so it just seemed natural to go to share in their joy.

Because last year was an e******n year, many officials, who were running showed up. Several came again this year. Last year it was noted that the park they refer to as 'theirs' had no public bathrooms. Officials got on the stick to see to it that oversight was corrected, and this year a medal building stood, housing both Men and Women bathrooms.

Both of you offer good points, pray together, or look at each other as human beings. The military has probably done the best job of integrating, although this garbage about integrating women into the front line units is a bunch of hogwash. There may be only 1 in 100 that could stand up under all that gear, and even lift a wounded comrade, but (if I were a man) I would not want to depend on it.

I'm from Wisconsin, now a Tennessean, my observations from when I grew up have changed dramatically. I went to grade school with b****s, some lived one block over from us, and everyone appeared to get along just fine. That is the way I see it here now, but back up home it seems to have changed. It appears a definite division has developed. Now, it's more like the rancor you hear between rabid Democrats/Republicans. It's time to look at it as the Military - we are all in the same country, and hopefully should want to stand together for the betterment of our Nation and its people. Thankfully, not everyone is filled with anger towards the other, there still are many who do get along just fine.

My only suggested solution would be if people like our President, Jesse Jackson, and Al Sharpton spoke out more for unity, rather than some of the inflammatory things they say, they could do a lot to reduce the rancor. White leaders need to step up to the same plate. AND, have these half-wit college professors cut this 'white privilege' malarkey. That only incites anger on both sides.

With all due respect, I disagree. We do not ALL want the same things except we all want to live, we all want to be comfortable, we all want to have enough money to do better than merely existing. However, NONE of those things except wanting to live, can be accomplished without harming one citizen to satisfy another American as long as welfare exists, as long as unemployment exists, as long as SS is a requirement, a dictated form of "retirement", as long as Medicare exists, as long as Obamacare exists. THAT is the reason GOVERNment cannot micromanage our lives. As long as it tries to, we cannot possibly attain what each of us wants. The left wants all these things, and in demanding such, it k**ls the right's wants. Government cannot give away one single thing UNTIL IT FIRST TAKES IT FROM ANOTHER. We definitely do not all want the same things.

Of course there will always be people who wish to live and prosper by the sweat of others. CEO's for example make huge sums of money for very little work as do our so called representative between pay-offs, bribes and salary they do ok for people who work less than half a year.

Giving the workers a decent portion of the profits is not taking from the investors who did nothing to earn it. It is simply paying an honest day's pay for an honest day's work. It is the responsibility of those of us who have prospered to reach back and assist those who haven't been as lucky. Success if we tell the t***h is twenty parts hard work and eighty parts luck. Not everyone in this country had the same benefits I had. If they had they could have achieved the same results or possibly better results.

Fear of loosing what we have and greed should not be the driving forces in a society. The reason this country is in the mess it is in is Greed. Fear that I may have to have a little less so someone else can have the basics of life should not rule. I am so tired of hearing how the poor and social programs are the ruination of this country. No one complains about the theft of billions by Wall Street. No one goes to jail for it. Yet, one poor person receiving food, shelter, heat, and a cheap phone is the end of the world. The Pentagon stealing millions is not as bad as helping someone less fortunate. Maybe this country is getting exactly what we deserve. The greedy will never be satisfied. They will want more and more as the last twenty years should have proven to everyone.

There are too many incorrect things in your comment to attempt to correct them all, and I don't think you would agree with a single one of them if I bothered to make the attempt. The whines will continue as long as man is on the earth because he doesn't know how to be independent. The end of civilization is OBVIOUSLY coming soon.

We obviously have very different philosophies. I believe in helping my fellow man. Greed will always continue as long as human beings have no concept of right and wrong. The end of our Society is coming soon. Just as you feel there are many incorrect things in my comments, I feel there are way to many in yours. However, you are entitled to your opinion and I respect that. On this we will simply have to agree to disagree.

How do you view Italian Americans? Should the AOH be disbanded So that Irish Catholics are American first?
Polish Americans? Are they not Americans first?
Franco American organizations?
Everyone I have ever met who is Caucasian has a list of their European heritage, they say the litany in the same order each time they recite it.
Are they not American?

What is the halfway that Caucasians are going to bend to?
