Obama used the tragedy at the Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charlston, SC the other night to point out that this horror happened at a very unfortunate time when both houses have a Republican majority(as though this could have been stopped had the democrats a majority) Here is some of what he said:We do know that once again, innocent people were k**led in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun. At some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this kind of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesnt happen in other places with this kind of frequency. It is in our power to do something about it. The politics in this town foreclose a lot of those avenues right now., Obama said. At some point its going to be important for the American people to come to grips with it, and for us to be able to shift how we think about the issue of gun violence collectively.
Notice that hit-and-run remark? "It is in our power to do something about it. The Politics in this town foreclose a lot of those avenues right now"
In case anyone forgot the White House, Senate, and House was controlled by democrats until 2014, and there were plenty of mass shootings then too. But, it's not guns that k**l people, it's the failure to write laws restricting freedom that k**ls people. Right. The president did not comment on the fact that even if all of the gun control measures he has supported during his presidency and in the Senate were law today that they would have stopped the k*****gs committed by a lone insane gunman. Nor did he bother to mention that, just like Sandy Hook Elementary School and the movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado, Emmanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church was located in a "GUN FREE" zone meaning there were signs saying "NO Guns allowed in this area". They might as well have put up signs saying this:
NO WEAPONS ALLOWED

ATTENTION CRIMINALS
This is a Defense Free Crime Zone

All Law Abiding Patrons of This Area
Have Been Disarmed for Your Convenience

The very idea of a politician using tragedy for personal or partisan gains is abhorrent - and perfectly acceptable - as it has been occurring forever and only those opposed to a particular person/party seem to mind.
