The Federal Government released a How To Book on managing the emotions regarding gun control. Interesting reading.

Thank you twice. I had no idea it was already a subject, I just received it today attached to an email. I wish I knew how to delete a topic......

The avatar was a gift from a friend, the note attached to it, "I could not help myself, this is so you!"

I think that if our criminal Justus system would enforce the laws that are already on the books and prosecute accordingly there wouldn't be this much gun violence. so quit yelling about more gun control and start yelling that the police and prosecuters to do their jobs. you do the crime and use a firearm you do the time plus 10 years on top of that. that might put a big dent in gun violence.

The freedom of speech we take as our most fundamental right--and we have numerous reasonable restrictions. We are not allowed to say or print anything we damn well please. Why are guns different?

I see a hand in the back of room. Yes? "Black heliocopters are coming to take all our guns away." Thank you for sharing. I see another hand waving kind of wildly. Yes? "Universal registration is just Obama's plan to locate all of our guns and take them away, like Hitler did. That's his ideal, btw; it's in one of his books." Really? Which book and page number, please? "Ha, everyone knows this is true."

Okay. Yes, over there. "Gun shows require no background checks." And? "This is the American way." How so? "No Big Government interference in our right to protect ourselves against the government." But criminals and the mentally ill then have free access to purchase weapons. "They can and will do that anyway." But a law against it will not only allow law enforcement to identify these possible threats but also provide the means to prosecute. "So."

The whole argument against reasonable restrictions is predicated on the imagined threat of Big Government. Thinking gun-owning people find no threat or problem with universal licensing of arms, which is an accepted standard in many areas. Why bother making murder against the law when criminals will murder anyway? Making the government the enemy is terrorism.

You have a valid point, but you say "reasonable" several times without defining the meaning. What you, and what the government, and my neighbor see as reasonable may be miles apart.

You also ask why have a law against murder when criminals will murder anyway. It is my opinion, based on the newspapers, television, and such that people who legally own guns are not the people committing the crimes.

The article associated with this has less to do with whom should have guns, but more on how to persuade individuals who are ill-informed that no one should have guns, save government and law enforcement. It is in essence a propaganda tool used to change laws and the constitution to deny the average law abiding citizen the right to keep and bear arms.

Which was my point.

The typical argument is that gun-control equates, as you have interpeted the comments, to taking away all guns. Have never heard this argument anywhere. This is simply NRA propaganda. If it were true, NRA ads and a good many Republicans would be in a frenzy to put a name and a face to such an outlandish idea. It has not happened. Instead, it is the paranoid slippery slope idea of registering all gun sales and ownership: first Hilerian step in confiscation, lol.

jeff, I guess you are talking to ginnyt but to be certain, use the quotereply. However, if on the longshot chance you meant those comments for me, all brains need washing--and a good rinse cycle.

You misunderstand. I am totally against gun control. There is a need for us in this day and age to hold on to our rights and at times that means we need to use force. Secondly, it is not the people who legally own guns that commit the shootings and k*****gs. I believe that we have enough laws on the books as it is.

What I was saying to the person to whom I was responding, people are not informed and they are in such a state these days that the propaganda will work on them. Take for example the comedian that has phony petitions: He actually got people to sign a petition to do away with the first amendment, euthanasia for old people, and to open prison door and let all Mexican criminals out regardless of what they had done.

I did not misunderstand. Being totally against gun control is akin to anarchy; this is a nation of laws. No one is taking away your rights by asking that you be responsible in gun-ownership to the community. NO ONE HAS A PLAN TO TAKE AWAY YOUR GUNS! OR THE RIGHT TO OWN ONE! Do you need arm-piercing rounds and no registration and fifty round clips and automatic-fire to stop a burglar? If your enemy is the state, our country, that you plan to attack instead of going through due process to change, then buy a tank or atom-bomb. If America, seriously flawed, is the bad guy yet has always resolved its deepest defects, then defect or organize r*******n.

"He actually got people to sign a petition to do away with the first amendment, euthanasia for old people, and to open prison door and let all Mexican criminals out regardless of what they had done."
Lol, total paranoid BS. It is so incredibly absurd, I am sorry I bothered to respond.

I failed to see Obama. The "death panel" crap was started by the lies or misinformed rants of a Tea Party woman. Stupid people, if real, does not mean it is orchestrated by Obama or Democrats. Listen to this d******e claptrap as the heart and mind of Democrats is the v***s destroying this country. THINK! dammit.
