Their professors are paid upwards of $150,000 per year to teach them that? And most of the professors don't actually teach more than 2-3 classes a week--they're too busy writing their books! People pay good money to not be taught basics. Why do we put up with such incompetence? They'll graduate, get a job at McDonalds, and won't even be able to make change.

It is a cinch that none of those people will v**e intelligently, even the old white haired woman. They won't even know what day to go to the polls and will miss the e******ns from being so poorly informed about the e******ns. I guess that will make the progs very happy, won't it?
The ignorance of so many college grads and their "teachers" is a fact.
Another fact is the stupidity of the producers of that video. What, other than stupidity or incompetence, would cause a video to have the audio drowned by background "music"?

i have watched that one 3 times and never missed one word. I was overcome by the stupidity of the smart ass with the shades on who didn't know one thing about any of the three questions selected from that 1912 8th grade test. The dumbest one of the bunch was the gray haired woman. She thought you have to be a man to be President. I guess she won't v**e for Hillary when the time comes.

Forget college. What happened to high school.
I have posted long diatribes on this topic and will not repeat myself.

Have I seen you write in my thread about the revised World History books that are being, and have been being used for over 3 years? Maybe you need to look there and find that there are 36 pages about Islam and 0 about Christianity. I taught the course too many years to think that that kind of revisionism can be used today and that is in high school.
Unfortunately, "civics ignorant" college grads have become the "new normal" in America. High schools and colleges have placed less and less importance and time on teaching civics, government, and Constitutional history. People that do not want to abide by the Constitution or Bill of Rights, do not want students to learn about these things and take the chance that these same students will not v**e for people that want to "fundamentally change" this country into a socialist, c*******tic, free-for-all.

AuntiE, if you or someone you know is looking to improve their knowledge by taking classes or just looking for a good school to attend; you better not choose a school or college in a GOP controlled state, especially not North Carolina.
Why? Because NC lawmakers do not deem it necessary for charter school teachers to have a college degree to teach core subjects. And as Stephen Colbert puts it "Who is more qualified to teach the 5th grade than a 6th grader?"
The video is 6 minutes long and Mr. Colbert talks about NC at the end, but I am sure you will enjoy the B******i scandals since Mr. Colbert is a DOR.
Colbert "tips hat" to GOP legislature in NC
http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/07/30/4201239/cobert-tips-his-hat-to-nc-legislature.htmlOne more thing, I agree that the Republican party is not the party of "big government", they are the party of "HUGE GOVERNMENT". If a couple in North Carolina wants a divorce they will have to wait two years and take government classes. How is that for staying out of everyones business?

LOL. Not to worry, oldroy, not to worry. The progs with a few brain cells pick up the dummies, take them to the polls, tell them who to v**e for, tell them how many times to v**e. An individual numbskull won't have to miss an e******n - his "betters" will see to it that he v**es, as many times as necessary. :hunf: :hunf:

Yup - go to any Democratic controlled urban school for a real education
Welcome to upside down world, where a college professor gets paid the big bucks for teaching his/her opinion, and then gets tenured for it. Meanwhile, the public school system labor unions scream for more money for the teachers, and instead hire more administrators at $200,000 a year. And the U.S. falls further and further behind the world in even the most basic studies.
"And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper." Romans 1:28
How many different things happening in this country fit this simple bible verse?
I'm not so sure students were any smarter 100 years ago. Smartness is hard to measure. What seems more obvious to me is that the school system in this country has become a profit-driven business. I put education together with medicine in the area where profit makes a poor guide.
What happens is that schools want to process every kid that comes out of high school, no matter what their aptitude is or what career they want to go into because the more kids they process the more money they make.
100 years ago, when the point of education was to educate, students would learn enough to function and from there they would start to work and learn a trade as they go. IF they wanted to be a doctor or a scientist THEN they would go to college, this lead to everyone in college having an aptitude for higher education. But where's the money in that? A few thousand loans a year? That's it? Screw that, we need huge volumes of student debt to support our profit margin. So open those doors and let in all the i***ts and charge them all for admission! Does it matter if they graduate? OF course not. All that matters is that they pay.
I swear, some of the stupidest people I've ever met are people with degrees who's parents had the money to "process" them.

Finding a profit motive for the educational failures is about as far fetched as one can get - the ratio of profit making schools to the non-profits is ridiculoulsy low. The problem with education is the same as with health care - too much distortion caused by government overreach.
