What is chilling about stopping slime dogs like Manning from posting diplomatic and military files on the internet, for all to see? He deserves the death penalty for treason.

There is no chilling message . Manning's a t*****r . Those who attempt to make a comparison between Ellsberg and Manning , are simply tring to stoke the same old partisan fires, that is trademark for the politics of the Tea party /Conservative /Libertarian blocks .
What should be the description of these folks is " Contrarians " [ my word ]
For those who bother to investigate and those who were around back in those days , the information exposed by Ellsberg is of a totally different nature .
Ellsberg exposed a conspiracy of deception regarding the Vietnam War , involving the CIA , Gen.Westmoreland , and those of the Nixon Administration . That information did not give away military secrets , nor did it cost any lives , and did in fact save lives in the course of the Vietnam War . The American People were being duped and lied to from the getgo , The Tet Offensive clearly showed what Ellsberg later proved -WE WERE GOING NOWHERE and were systematically being lied to as to the fact that we were mired down and making no headway .Nixon promised " Peace with Honor " , but in effect extended bombing into Cambodia and Laos , and costing more American and Asians lives .

Since you know so much and anticipate what the Tea Party's all about, be advised that I'm a Tea Party member since 2009, and I also believe that Manning became a t*****r when he passed on military information. I don't need to qualify myself as a patriot, take it or leave it. I would go a step farther with this, however, this young fellow was a PFC and HTH did he then have access to such sensitive information? HTH did he secure such a level of military confidentiality? I'm not asking you, I'm just posing that question to allow for more clarity. I see nothing implying failure on his commander's part in seeing to it that the disputed information should have been more closely monitored. The material was allowed to get out of department by carelessness. I can't believe that the U.S. Army was so nonchalant as to allow the burden of security on an inexperienced enlisted man of the 1st or 2d pay grade, when the data and material he was handling should have required the responsibility of an experienced Officer when it was processed. I find it difficult to believe that the top-ranking officer in that unit was not supervising the operation to maintain security. Manning took the fall by going to Wikileaks, but he was allowed too much latitude in his workplace and that, along with his developed ideology, precipitated the issue. I believe Manning's tendencies could have been spotted and then he could have been t***sferred to a non-sensitive function, where he could have served without making himself a t*****r.

If your point is that Mannings superiors should be held to some accountability , I totally agree ,also that someone of his rank should have open access .And YES , what kind of security is in operation ?? Well the Snowden Case showed that .....WOEFULLY INEFIICIENT , LAX and outright DELETERIOUS .
However sole responsibility for the ACT rest on Manning's AND Snowden's shoulders . They are both T*****rs.
There seems to be some sort of security disconnect going on in the US military and Intelligence Services . Sensitive computers go missing , Laptops get left on trains and buses . One must ask - WHAT IS GOING ON ?

The Fort Hood massacre exposes the same lax disregard for responsibility , indeed COMMON CONCERN , on thepart of Hassan's Superiors . The slaughter there should have been totally PREVENTABLE .

Also, on the part of Hasan's fellow officers who were aware of his personal cards indicating his rank, plus "Soldier of Allah" emblazoned on those cards. Freedom is good, but not that kind of freedom in an organization called the U.S. Army.
The U.S. Army I was in wasn't a PC operation. I cannot even envision an Army going all-out for PC sensitivity, to a point where officers who did have knowledge of Hasan's deterioration, his fanaticism for Islam, were fearful to go up the Chain of Command to advise their superiors of wh**ever actions/attitudes he demonstrated as his zeal grew. He was enabled because he must have calculated that no one cared because they kept their silence.
Were fellow officers, obviously Medical Corps officers, unable to go anywhere on that vast post to exteriorize their impressions of Hasan? Ft. Hood is one helluva large, active, post. Once again, I'm indicting other officers who served in close proximity of Hasan, those with a laissez faire attitude which ends up as dereliction of their officer oaths and consequent murder of unarmed post personnel plus dependents.

One glaring problem with the Snowden case is - a subcontractor USIS given the task of vetting prospective employees of yet another Subcontractor to the NSA ./
