Hey, vets:

I have not been able to find anyone selling "buddy poppies" for the last 8 years. I have contacted the VFW, the American Legion, my county Republican organization and my county commissioner, and...nada. I used to proudly buy one every year. I live in Lake
County, Illinois, and any leads will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Howdy,

I'm not a vet but I have not seen them for sale for a while. Most young people don't even know what Buddy Poppy means. That is a very good program that helps vets.

I searched for a spell online and found this. I could not find anything for Lake County or the next one over (Cook County)

But the Ladies of the VFW in Mendota (Post 4079)...in La Salle County Illinois are selling them.

Sorry, that link isn't working.

Try this one. Here is the contact info for VFW Post 4079. Maybe if you contact them they know of someone near you that is selling them.

I will be looking around while I'm out and about on Memorial Day for anyone selling them down here in Texas.

It's been way too long since I bought one. Thanks for reminding me.

I actually ran into a Navy Vet [or Vetette, if that's a word] and she thought they stopped making them or replaced th with some lame little lapel pin. They are still going strong in the UK [it's not just an American thing] but I thought they we made by disabled vets. I still have one on my visor hinge in my car that I bought just before I moved to Lake County in 2007, but haven't seen one since.

Anyway, thanks for the leads.

If you find them, please post about it. Yep I heard they were made by disabled vets too. Dad, a WWII vet and VFW member always used to buy them. That is how I came to know about them, what they were for and the connection to WWI (the poem "In Flanders Fields)

Are you near Bolingbrook? The VFW there will be selling them "at key intersections and shopping centers" this weekend.

Interestingly enough, L8erToots, the last one was when I lived in far south Naperville, just south of the DuPage/Will county line, and there always was a vet selling them at the Jewel on 75th street, as well as many other locations. Bolingbrook was just a stone's throw away, but now I live a few miles south of the Wisconsin border, and I know there are veterans organizations up here, but after 8 years of reaching out, I am still empty handed. I will however, continue to cherish & proudly display the last poppy I bought, nearly 9 years ago. T***h is, in DuPage & Kane Counties there were so many available that I once sported a whole bouquet of them, until I totaled my car and lost them when I got my new one. Anyway, thanks for the leads, but I don't understand why Lake Co. had seemed to go Vet-Dead.

I've sent a private message to the Veteran's Canteen Services (via Facebook) and hopefully they will reply with info on where you can get one :)
I had never heard of them, but after researching it, I think it's a great program to support our disabled vets! I'll let you know if I get a reply :)
