Hello Forum Members. I am a Conservative American-Jew (I mention that because although I believe that Israel is properly the homeland of the Jewish people, I myself have no desire whatsoever to go and live there). I am also a Conservative politically speaking, which means that I am--much to the discredit of my own people--one of a very small group of Jews in aligning themselves with the Republican party. I believe that clarity is far more important than agreement--one can never rationally hope to acheive agreement if there is no clarity on what the various positions are, and I am even more interested in meaning than in t***h (if you disagree with that then please tell me if you agree with the statement "Blick is grue.").

I have studied political science, philsophy and history, and enjoy the debates between honest brokers rather than the ranting and raving of people who are more interested in calling each other names than in an hinest dialogue. I hope that I will find a fairly goodly supply of the latter here.

Actually, you will find a goodly supply of both here. That happens when people are committed to a position, and either defend or oppose it. Much of the angst here is well meant, some is just the result of crap stirrers with nothing better to do. We got 'em all; right wing , left wing, wing nuts, and just winging it. take you pick, and jump in. I do not agree with the statement that "Blick is grue." I hold the position that "Oogle is bargle."

Do you wear one of those funny hats, the ones with no logical purpose? What makes a Jew a Jew? Is it a religion? A race? Do you have to be born a Jew?

As far as your question goes, I must contend I am more interested in t***h, than meaning. In that my goal is to know the t***h of a matter including true meanings, as opposed to just knowing meanings. I often know what the words mean, but what was intended to be expressed by the words I don't know.

Unless I misinterpreted your "meanings" I would be inclined to agree with you that "you don't know" much of anything.

As for the needing clarification of a Jew: "is it a religion race or does one have to be born a Jew"?

Generally speaking, yes one is born a Jew through his mother however, there are exceptions to the rule, for example, Sammy Davis, Jr. Is it a race? I wouldn't characterize it as such. It is a religion known as Judaism. Its language is Hebrew. הבן?, הבן?, comprende? Capice? Get it?

Our "funny hats" do have a logical purpose, though you wouldn't be able comprehend if it were explained to you in it's simplest terms.
