Paul Beatty and Sherman Alexie

I am wondering if any of you have read anything by
these two authors. Paul Beatty's latest book is, by far, the most amazing one I've read. It is "The Sellout", which is what he was called by his father in the book.

Another great one is "White Boy Shuffle".

Everything by Sherman Alexie - he calls himself an Indian, not a native-American, so no P.C. He is a
Coeur d'Alene and Spokane Indian. If anyone has a teenager, I suggest you get his book: "The Absolutely
True Diary of a Part-Time Indian". If you don't have a
teen, get it anyway. This is Sherman Alexie's life.

Paul Beatty - I would like to live inside his brain - his language usage is poetic, lyrical, tough. I write, and have done so since 3rd grade. BUT - Alexie and
Beatty are (now this is a hard one) 2 of my fave
authors. I just finished reading Toni Morrison's new book, "God Help the Child". A quick read.

I'd really like to hear what others in the forum like to read - or, really, which books and authors enthrall you
the most. Or influenced you the most. When I was a teenager, living in France, apart from the French authors, Catch 22 became my "Bible", along with my best friend. So many wonderful memories.

I could list many, many. I won't. The Tin Drum. Call It
Sleep. Everything by Roddy Doyle.
