Armageddun has an interesting question and has volunteered this for discussion.

I am interested, what do you think that John 14:9 means? I have thought about this for sometime, but still am not sure if he intended a physical likeness or if he was taking about his works. I would be interested in your or other's views on this.

Since the Bible says God is spirit It would seem to me that Jesus was referencing the works. However, as He mingled among the people I'm sure He also meant to look at His actions to see what the Father was like.

He also said I and the Father are one. In John 17 we find the real Lords prayer and he speaks of being one with His followers as He and the Father are one.

John14:9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it."

"...whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." Greater works by us is predicated on Jesus going to the Father: how? Greater in number, not magnitude, is the only answer. But this is also referencing spirit, without which the works are either a trick or impossible.

Now for the tough part. "Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father." This is true of all of us, having been made in the image and likeness of God.

"...I am in the Father and the Father is in me." There are twelve at-one-ment verses with us included. I will get them but what this at-one-ment means is simple: as God takes us over the more our true selves we become, reverting to his original intention for us, not converting to Christian
