Rumi; I read your article, I'm not sure I want to do this, but, I'm going to anyway.

For you personally, when does it ever boil down to personal choice, and personal responsibility? Some of the stats related to this thread and ones like it, are staggering, and should prove as motivation, but it won't, because motivation is an individual thing. It's similar to dedication, in that it's a personal decision, some have it, some don't. Question is how do we address the latter?

The v****g rights act , and all related legislation should be abandoned .
Assuming that we all live under the same Constitution , and thereby enjoy EQUAL RIGHTS , then all STATE LAWS REGARDING E******NS , should be trumped by a UNIFORM FEDERAL LAW , agreed upon and v**ed on by ALL of the sates .
It is ridiculous on its face to have 50 states under the same Union , to have variable v****g laws and requirements . Can anyone cite any logical or legal reason, why v****g laws and requirements should vary state to state ? Presently these variations serve only one purpose , and that is political manipulation of v****g according to the agenda of a particular party or politician .
For the same reason gerrymandering should be eliminated , it is nothing more than political chicanery .
I am for VALID V**ER ID UNIVERSALLY .
Eliminate all racial or ethnic quotas for college entrants and job hiring , EQUAL ACCESS should be the rule . Any Federal aid should follow the same . Anything beyond that should be in the domain of contribution by private enterprise or organizations .

This article does not prove "bigotry of Buchanan". Actually if reinforces some of his views.

"The Court now seems to be saying that this objective has been formally achieved and all of our other aspirations of e******y must be accomplished through the old-fashioned way of living alongside one another."

What is wrong with the above statement? Pointing out that laws have been made to enhance diversity does not equate to "bigotry". As a matter of fact, because the "court" says the "law school’s policy of giving a boost to minority candidates was acceptable because achieving a “critical mass” of minority students is a compelling interest for an elite public law school", doesn't mean that the court has any business deciding what is a "compelling interest for an elite law school".

I've been opining for a long time that the Supreme Court has been "making decisions" on subjects that didn't even concern them, and I still feel that way. This is a case where they made a "decision" and then had to "re-evaluate" their own decision. This proves to me that they are not the be-all and end-all with regard to interpreting anything, much less the Constitution.

I have to agree with Lou's assessment.

I wasn't trying to "prove" Buchanan's bigotry; he already did that. This was meant only as another point of view that incidentally addresses issues raised by Buchanan and the question of race in America. I also agree with most of Lou's assessment, which agrees with the article.

Sorry, not exactly sure what you are getting at here. It seems you are suggesting a lack of personal responsibility, motivation, and dedication but by whom? Me? SCOTUS? B****s? The States?

Sorry Rumi, I should've been more specific. Originally my question was in regards to the black race. If you would also like to elaborate on the others you mentioned, I would enjoy that as well.
