Heart Surgery in India for $1,583 Costs $106,385 in the U.S.
Don't worry, Obama will make it all better!
Wanna bet India doesn't have massive, insane, tort laws that hand out millions of dollars for frivolous lawsuits like the US has? If we could get decent tort reform, our medical costs could go down like mad. Additionally if we could get back to taking care of patients instead of learning to be a machine technician, we would have fewer expenses while in hospital.
I am a retired registered nurse who always worked directly with patients, and I will not under any circumstances allow anyone to take me to a major huge hospital - I've had several bad experiences with 3 of them in two states. I will either go to a small local hospital or to none at all.
I think I would rather pay for a major operation in the US. Over India. In fact I already have. I am the living proof. It's called a quad cabg.
BTW. The VA Hospital in Asheville NC is top dog in my book.

Actually, I believe the NC VA hospital is the one my uncle was sent to. He was a paraplegic and needed special attention from time to time, and the NC VA was THE place to go. Yes, I'd rather have surgery over here, too, but in a small to medium sized hospital.
