Baltimore: The Root Cause is Welfare Was Cut

Back before welfare was reformed, many more qualified for a check. After the 90's reform, feds only give states a "block grant" instead of using the number of applicants per state, like they used to. Now all that's done, besides save money, is encourage multiple fathers and marriage avoidance.

In the past, a married family could apply and get a check. After reform, welfare was cut and states decided they would focus on the most needy: Single moms.

We see how that worked out. It created a market for single moms.

A married couple out of work and below the poverty line can only get food stamps and children's healthcare (CHP).

The same family, if the mom applied as single with no father in the house, gets the welfare check.

Not only does she get a check when the husband isn't living there, she gets a check for each child.

That has given the power to mom. She can have many partners who are dependent on her.

And the men know moms have the power. If they even think about marrying, they look around and see a huge risk. If they later divorce, the father has to pay child support and even if unemployed, has to pay the mom. If he can't pay the ex, he goes to jail.

If the divorced, working poor father had a job, he will be fired for going to jail for lack of child support payment.

And they wonder why they are r**ting? That's why you see black males r**ting. There are no women r**ting.

And if they try to provide for their children selling a single cigarette on the street, the police cuff them for illegal black market selling.

Give married families a lot more welfare than single mom families and help the father get training and a job and you won't see any r**ts no matter what the police do.

Not sure I agree totally, but you have some good points. In the Book of Thessalonians Paul talks about work. He basically said if you are a able bodied man and do not work you should not eat. Giving "stuff" to able bodied people is evil. You create idleness, and a lack of self worth. That is what we have in the poor communities. Always help the disabled and the children, but hunger cramps can be a great incentive to get off your ass and find a job. With the advent of single moms and welfare government has found another way to help destroy a man's self-worth and the family unit.

Welfare, few countries have welfare. Try visiting a 3rd world country with little running water, little electricity, grass roofs, that's poor! Until you have at least visited one you have no idea what it's about. Your saying in 25 years they haven't adapted, you quite correct they haven't in 55 years and they have no intention.

First, you will have to educate them before you can train them. The Black community needs to stand up and solve their owe problems. B****s cannot just keep looking to government to solve their problems because it will not work, only the B****s can do this. So, who is going to stand up and take lead????

Welfare cut had nothing whatsoever with Baltimore r**ts. There has been no such thing. The r**ts were pure thug violence, encouraged and abetted by Democrat politicians from Obama (verbally inflamed the thugs and sent three reps to Freddy's funeral), the governor who wouldn't send in the Guard, to the mayor who actively, explicitly permitted the violent thugs to r**t.

Welfare is socialist redistribution of income, confiscating wealth from people who work for it and earn it because they need it, in order to buy v**es by giving it to lazy, irresponsible people. There is no justification for welfare as we know it whatsoever.

The public schools already give everybody who is not too lazy to work training that permits them to handle ordinary manufacturing jobs. The government, with its tax code, irresponsible regulations, and open borders, especially since Obama put it on steroids, is the primary reason jobs have been disappearing.

The government need to get out of the way of job formation and wealth creation so everybody who wants to work can work.
