In 2010, this excellent essay, America's Ruling Class: the Perils of Revolution, was written by Angelo Codevilla. He is professor emeritus of international relations at Boston University. He served as a U.S. Navy officer, a foreign service officer, and professional staff member of the Select Committee on Intelligence of the United States Senate.
I have yet to check out the betrayal papers, but Codevilla's piece lays out the division between the Ruling class (them) and the Country class (US). Worth reading.
