Much of the mainstream media coverage of the Baltimore r**ts has focused on the supposed misdeeds of police in a city with an alleged history of police brutality, but far less attention has been given to a number of complicating factors surrounding the outbreak.

Widespread r**ting, l**ting, and burning erupted on Monday after the funeral of 25-year-old Freddie Gray, who was arrested in Baltimore on April 12 and died a week later from spinal injuries he suffered while in custody.

Here is a Newsmax look at the 17 things about the Baltimore r**ts the media won't tell you:

1. Gray had an arrest record. He had been arrested a total of 22 times in Maryland, primarily for possession and distribution of illegal narcotics. Gray had been involved in 20 criminal court cases, five of which were still active at the time of his death.
Special: GMO Food: It's Worse Than We Thought . . .
2. Gray was armed. Police found him carrying a switchblade knife.

3. Police pursued Gray after he made eye contact with officers and fled. That's sufficient cause for pursuit if the fleeing suspect is in a drug-invested area, which Gray was.

4. Police officers reportedly violated policy by not securing Gray with a seatbelt inside the police van after he was apprehended. But a policy written in 1997 said seatbelt use was discretionary. However, a new policy requiring their use was communicated to officers on April 9, just three days before Gray was arrested, and the police union president said many officers were not yet aware of the policy changes.

5. A friend of an officer who arrested Gray said the suspect wasn't secured in the van because officers were not able to bring him under control and were afraid he would attack or bite them.

6. Gray may have been intentionally trying to injure himself in the van. Multiple reports claimed Gray was not buckled because officers wanted to dole out extrajudicial treatment by deliberately giving him a rough ride. But another prisoner in the van with Gray told investigators that Gray was banging against the walls of the van and the prisoner believed he was intentionally trying to injure himself.

7. A call to "purge" circulated on social media among Baltimore students on the morning of the Monday r**ts. It was a reference to a 2013 movie depicting a 12-hour period when all crimes were legalized, and may have convinced the students that there would be no repercussions for r**ting and l**ting.

8. The l**ting may have been premeditated, as a number of r****rs arrived on the scene carrying crowbars. President Barack Obama said that when people "start opening doors to l**t, they're not protesting."

9. Baltimore fought to open the CVS that was burned down. Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Black's administration "worked very hard" to get CVS pharmacy to open a store in the low-income neighborhood where the r**ting occurred, she said. It was the only new store in the area where residents could fill prescriptions, but r****rs l**ted merchandise and burned the pharmacy down.

10. Firefighters attempting to quell the blaze were hampered when someone slashed a hose that had been turned on the flames.

11. R****rs also set fire to 144 vehicles, in addition to neighborhood businesses.

12. Protestors had already rampaged before the major r**ts broke out following Gray's funeral on Monday. The previous Saturday, protestors in downtown Baltimore — referred to as "agitators" by the city's mayor — became violent and damaged at least five police cars and pelted police with rocks. Six officers were injured.

13. Baltimore already had a serious crime problem. In a city of 645,000, there are reportedly an estimated 60,000 drug addicts, including 48,000 on heroin. Last year the city's murder rate was fifth in the nation, with 37.4 murders per 100,000 population.

14. The 1968 r**ts already wreaked havoc on parts of Baltimore. The neighborhood that was the scene of the worst r**t violence was already filled with many burned-out buildings and vacant lots resulting from the 1968 r**ts following the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr.

15. As far away as Los Angeles, police were encouraged to ride in pairs. The order was in response to what Baltimore police determined was a "credible threat" of gang violence against police across the U.S.

16. Protestors in Philadelphia conducted a "Philly is Baltimore" demonstration at City Hall, drawing parallels between Gray's death and the death of a local man shot during a traffic stop in December. Evidence later indicated that Brandon Tate-Brown was reaching into his car for a loaded pistol when he was shot.

17. Just 25 percent of U.S. adults consider the r**ts to be an expression of legitimate outrage, according to a new Rasmussen Report survey, which said 63 percent characterize it as mostly criminals taking advantage of the situation.

If in fact Freddie Gray was guilty of something and yes even thou this topic indicates past criminal record and that is probably true. So where does Freddie Gray belong in jail or in a casket. As for the stupid comment as to the lame stream media it has been reported about past criminal activity. So stop your BS

Typical trdsnest!

Freddy Gray was NOT injured by anything the police did to him. He did it all by himself, without any police being involved or even in sight of him. Gray was put into the van without injury. He injured himself deliberately during the ride. His only injuries occurred during the ride. The other prisoner in the van, separated from Gray by a partition, was not injured at all, so don't even think of claiming the cops gave Gray such a rough ride that he broke his neck from being tossed around.

Unfortunately people at the level of trdsnest are incapable of dealing with facts and just keep on demonstrating what they are.

It's apparent you know absolutely nothing about what happened in the back of the Van. The other person in question that was in the Van at the time has testified and was interviewed said the the article in question I believe the NY times was false. But the other person was not interviewed by Fox so you would not have any idea what he said. There is no way he could have inflected an injury to that extent by himself. You just buy into a story that was just not true. Before you make such a stupid comment why not wait till the medical examiners report comes out. Like I said maybe he should be in jail but not in a casket. But we have r****t ass holes who just want to deny any kind of police brutality on a black person as being okay.

I don't think anyone knows for sure what happened yet and everyone should wait and see. What I see is a bunch of criminal law breakers doing damage to innocent Baltimore citizens and business owners for no good reason. I know if I owned one of those businesses there would have been a pile of bodies piled up just outside the building. I would be defending myself and my business to the bitter end.

There's info coming out that Freddy had had 'back surgery' and a pending claim with Allstate.
If this is true, he may have injured himself resisting the cops when he should have been recooperating for said surgery. Who knows???.
Maybe we'll know all the facts shortly.

Those here that are ready to absolve the 6 officers are jumping to conclusions based on media information, some of which has already been debunked. The "facts" are largely unknown and any "conclusion" is premature.

However, the same applies to those clamoring to convict the officers. Had Gray been absolutely guilty of wh**ever he was supposedly arrested for, his maximum punishment would be no more than time in prison. Somehow he ended up with injuries that led to his death. It appears that the officers may have contributed to his injuries, but at this point no one is really certain if those actions occurred prior to Gray being put in the van or during the t***sportation.

On one hand, Gray's advocates claim that his past history should have no bearing on our opinion of whether the police were justified in approaching or arresting him. Yet, they point to past incidents committed by police to justify their accusations against the officers involved. Because "someone" who was an LEO mistreated residents who were accused, then these particular 6 officers MUST be guilty. No one witnessed a specific activity that led to the injury, the injuries could have occurred in a number of ways, and all we really know is the end result. How everyone got from point A to point B is a mystery. Many theories, none that are provable.

Here is what we know for sure. No matter the facts they have nothing to do with the lawless l**ting by totally useless human beings. Since these people will never do anything with their lives except cause pain and injury to other human beings around them it's time to stop catering to this lawlessness and do what has worked in the past. You don't give them the key, or in this case crowbar to the city. You shoot l**ters. That would still be true if the cops took the drug dealer out in the woods and executed little Freddy.

But what can you expect from a society with a two party system that are both filled with criminals as george bush and obama With the answer to the problem is running more criminals that we know are some of the worst humanity has to offer. You want justice? You want accountability? Then kick these people to the curb where they belong and start acting like Americans instead of i***ts and demand it.
