San Jacinto Day

Today marks the 179th Anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. That is the decisive battle that won Texas independence from Mexico and the dictator Santa Anna. The 'Texicans' of the time led their charge upon the encamped Mexican army with shouts of 'Remember the Alamo' & 'Remember Goliad'...two battles won by Santa Anna's forces prior to San Jacinto. Texican forces in those engagements had been totally annihilated.

Texas became an independent nation soon thereafter. It was short-lived, however, as we annexed the United States less than ten years later.

When Texas 'de-annex's' I will move there. I too wish to be free.

I may be able to talk the Sgt. Major into having you live with us for free...short of serving BBQ upon demand from the local BBQ joints.

I lived right down the highway in Pasadena/Deer Park, Texas during my high school years, and visited both on a regular basis. We also used to go crabbing in the nearby pools and bayous. You are correct, it is a good spot for a family outing.

I gotta say, I lived in Texas for 13 years and, while there are a few things I miss (an evening meal outside and big thunderstorms), after 20 years in California I can't think of any reason to leave my adopted home state.

Not being a Texan, even I know Texas annexed the rest of the United States. Without Texas, the United States would be further into the manure pile.

He is a pseudo Texan. That is because he resides there. He is no better than a Mizzeryan. He belongs with Armi and his mules. However, his being a swabbie, we can afford to cut him a little slack.

I can understand that. You fit California and it suits you fine. A match made in Heaven so to speak. Glad you like it there.

I figure it's always something with Mother Nature. I grew up in Florida with the threat of hurricanes, then Texas and tornadoes (and the occasional ice storm in Dallas) and now it's earthquakes in California. From my perspective, any weather/geological issues are a small price to pay for a place one loves.

I figured when they managed to build the 60-floor One Rincon Hill residential tower they must have figured out the seismic engineering to make it safe.
