For me, and others more learned, our First Amendment is essentially foundational to any democracy or republic. No matter how much I may h**e and be hurt by what others choose to say and do, I must honor and protect their expression; not to do so means I do not honor and protect liberty for all. This can be very hard, as in the case of this Vet. Sacrilege to the f**g he fought for and had friends die for disrespectfully stepped on by protesters? I feel the same Right protecting their freedom of speech was his in taking the f**g.

My parents would stress it is vital not to h**e or disparage those fellow citizens expressing their view, no matter how ugly, wrong, and harmful I thought it to be. As my dad said, "It is not about their point but that they could openly air that point you are protecting. In another age, a Christian view may be unwelcomed."

I assume that you are referring to things going on in the Middle East. I don't think it correct to say that "nobody cares." I care. I am bothered by the fact that Christians are being slaughtered. I am bothered that anyone is being slaughtered. But what can we as individual citizens of the USA do about that ?

But a problem that is much, much greater because of the numbers involved is the problem that people all over the world are starving. That is something we can all do something about.

Should we open our doors and hearts to Christian refugees from the far away places where they are being slaughtered and provide them safe passage to our shores? By the way I am no biblical scholar but I do not recall any mention of Christ in the old testament, he was more about charity and turning the other cheek. Lots of that "he who is without sin casting the first stone" stuff.

The Old Testiment is part of the Bible because it's purpose is to
reveal Jesus through prophecy.

Yes we should let the persecuted christians in. Our father in Heaven knows they are letting every criminal cross our boarders. And for your information the christian are being crusified, buried alive children are , BEING cut in half not to mention beheadings burn alive. But one thing I know for sure is Gods judgement is on isis now. The are infested with boils everyone of them. Gods jugdements is sure. He will take care of his people. Its going to get worse it will come here to America. Make yourself ready for the Lord Jesus he will always stand by your side. Oh one more thing you are allowed to protect your selves and family KEEP YOUR GUNS.

At one time, Home Depot had two f**gs and one had the grommet torn off and the f**g was damaged. I told the management and after 30 min. it still was not taken down, I called corporate and within 15 min an employee came and removed it, the problem is the lack of patriotism to recognize a problem. No one cares about the overall condition of the country. As long as they have money to feed their desires. When they get hungry, people will get ugly and it's starting to show already.

“Evelyn Beatrice Hall, in her biography on Voltaire, Hall wrote the phrase: "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" (which is often misattributed to Voltaire himself) as an illustration of Voltaire's beliefs. Hall's quotation is often cited to describe the principle of freedom of speech.”

I disagree with your parents philosophy that “It is vital not to h**e or disparage those fellow citizens expressing their view, no matter how ugly, wrong, and harmful I thought it to be.

The freedom to speak does not impose a burden on me to like what you say or to fail to recognize and identify as such, the utter stupidity of your remarks. That is my freedom of speech in action. Some positions are deserving of contempt and hatred -- That you are free to espouse those positions and make statements does not abridge my right to oppose and disparage them. If those utterances are in opposition to freedom and morality I have a positive obligation to do so.

There is a thin line between tolerance of others right to speak and “political correctness”, where any opposition to popular shibboleths is considered ‘H**e” speech.

RICHARD,

I WAS MAKING A GENERAL STATEMENT, MAYBE I SHOULD
HAVE SAID, "AND THE WORLD TURNS ITS HEAD".

We either have freedom of speech or we do not. I can see no gray area here. I do not believe in censorship of ideas. I may think another's point of view is morally wrong. In that case I am free to demonstrate with like minded people.

A good number of my family have died honoring our f**g. It would be very hard for me to see it desecrated. However, it is the right of people to express their opinions. I think I would have been detained with the Vet. That does not make my actions correct.

Well stated...that entire line of thinking with the so called "politically correct crowd" is tantamount to a similar view point that would one allow the stoning of a child to death merely due to a "freedom of expression" right? The answer should be obvious..NO you do not allow that horrible crossing of the line.

You do not love your County and want to burn a f**g, you need to move out of the USA plain and simple. Ol Glory waves for a purpose of freedom paid for by the blood and effort by the courage of those that have served and died for it, the highest price one can ever pay. That F**G is the USA and everything it stands for.

Of course you have no knowledge of the Bible...myself I do not pretend to walk the line of the total Christian faith but I would fight to the death to protect the rights of anyone that desires to practice Christianity.

I just seem to see a picture of thought about you and even you touching a Bible...such a slight touch and seeing your hand melt....not a realistic thing of course, but if so it would not shock me at all....

Again, I am not advocating censorship, I am staing my right to vigorously disagree with you through my speech and writings. There is no link to what the veteran did but if he was preventing the desecration of our f**g I would have stood with him. That is not free speech, it is an act of r*******n.
