Subject: Fw: US Naval armada deployed for invasion of Japan, 1945
Great WWII pics
. Thank you Pres Truman for dropping the bombs and saving countless American, and Japanese lives.
Some interesting pictures of history and the might of the US Navy. Worth the time to look at!
This is a fascinating piece of WWII well-kept secrecy.
US Naval armada deployed for invasion of Japan, 1945
This is phenomenal
!
An Armada of ships and airplanes poised for the invasion of Japan
that never happened
because President Truman authorized the dropping of A bombs at Nagasaki and Hiroshima that resulted in the Japanese surrender. Just think of the American lives that would have been lost had this invasion occurred. Be thankful that we had a President with the courage to make the call.
Sadly most Americans today know nothing about this and the sacrifices made by those before us. We are not teaching US history in our schools anymore
.
Some great pictures of the Ulithi armada! US Naval armada deployed for invasion of Japan. Keep this for posterity. There will never be another assemblage of naval ships like this again.
Staging area for the invasion of Japan. Check out the carriers on "Murderer's Row."
If any of you folks had fathers, grandfathers or uncles in the Navy during World War II, they may well have been involved in this operation, given the tremendous number of the ships and personnel involved.
You may also recognize them in some of the photos.

It is amazing the amount of oil that was required to run WWII, yet we ran out of gas in the 70's because of 24 B-52 flights a day. That was the excuse they gave after everyone turned off the oil pumps to jack the price of gas up and make people willing to pay more for gas.
Good stuff. My grandfather was in the Army air force in the pacific during WW2. My mother has photos from his deployment. I personnaly spend a lot of spare time studying the war. From start to finish its the most amazing time in history. Read "1942 the year that tried mens souls". You will get a very clear account of how brutal an enemy japan was.
The brave men who fought in the pacific dealt with incredibly horrible conditions and a horribly stubborn enemy to boot. Beating hitler no doubt was tough but my God the pacific war was pure hell

I was almost 9 years old when the war started. I remember going to the local bar to get Lucky Strike packages to peel out the foil and roll it in balls. I remember well VE day, and I think every conservative in the country praised Truman for dropping the bombs that ENDED a horrible war and saved countless lives.
He had no choice i summize. Japan was a vicious foe who yes, would have cost many more lives on both sides. I have a lot of respect for truman. He served in WW1 in the army if i remember right. Tom brokaw nailedit when he dubbed them the greatest generation. They 100% were
