Attention Travelers: Hidden cameras reveal airport workers stealing from luggage
http://www.cnn.com/2015/04/13/us/airport-luggage-theft/index.htmlNot bad enough that they frisk babies and spend additional time patting down women.... now this?
Miami (CNN)Inside a plane at Miami International Airport, baggage handlers are going on a shopping spree with passengers' bags.
What they don't know is that they are being recorded on a hidden camera. The Miami-Dade Police Department set up the camera as part of an ongoing police investigation into luggage thefts by the very airport workers who are supposed to get bags safely onto planes.
"It's a problem we all face," said police Lt. Pete Estis. "We will continue to be proactive until we can see that the claims of pilfering through luggage will actually decrease."
And these insider thefts just don't happen in Miami. A CNN analysis of passenger property loss claims filed with the TSA from 2010 to 2014 shows 30,621 claims of missing valuables, mostly packed in checked luggage. The rest occurred at security checkpoints. Total property loss claimed: $2.5 million.
John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York topped the list of airports with the most claims of thefts from luggage, followed by Los Angeles International, Orlando International and Miami International, according to the data.
America has now made one revolution of the drain..............the next one(s) won't take as long.

The salary range for airport baggage handlers is about $21K to $52K per year. Apparently, most of them supplement their incomes with thefts from the passengers luggage. Those thieves can add about $30K to over $100K to their regular yearly salary. In other words, don't put any valuables in checked luggage.

I'm pretty certain this is not a new phenomenon, and has been going on a lot longer than the i***tic "security" searches that we've seen implemented since 911.

This has been going on since the 60"s that I know of. I'm sure it started sooner then that, but that is when I started flying and loosing things. American cannot load soft luggage without tearing the straps off either.

They will also dent the corners of any metal hard luggage you check, on your very first trip.
Just because it has been done....does it make it right? The problem is worse now that TSA is vetting the handlers, they take their cut from the l**t. It is not right and needs to be stopped. And TSA has pretty much outlived its usefulness. Airport security should be returned to the airport and the airlines.
