Just glad you didn't send drachmas. AuntiE might have been unable to get much more than a Pepsi.

I mentioned previously; I used to be on a debating team in college. Theprofessor felt that if you expected a passing grade, you had to be able to mount a vociferous defense of a position or situation that you personally found odious. Due in no small part to my big mouth and natural truculence, I found myself being "Mr. Vociferous" frequently.
People who make an honest effort at playing "Devil's Advocate" frequently have pretty ironclad opinions, simply because they have honestly examined a subject from at least two different perspectives. At the risk of offending Hegelian affecionados, there is often much more than a thesis, antithesis and synthesis involved in reaching a satisfactory conclusion.
There can be no accurate conclusion reached if Devil's Advocacy is not practiced. I have, more than once, changed my mind from a first impression or opinion.

Doubts and questions are an integral and indispensible part of the process of arriving at the t***h. Thusly doth Loke render his opinion.

And it is often well thought out prior to giving.

Loki has to go to the grocery store. Edifications, expansions and corrections as deemed necessary in due course. First things first, and I have a pot roast to marinate. Oven or Crockpot? Shiraz or merlot? should I break out some of my frozen homemade Sauce Espagnole? It's tough when you have these earth-shattering decisions to make.

Playing the devils advocate; stay home, eat hotdogs, drink a pepsi and use your brilliant mind to answer her questions :!: :!: :!: :!: :!:

Wow that's heavy. I see you are a true intellectual. I can't think up stuff like that. I am just too simple. Read thru it a couple times to get your meaning and I think I got it. What is is what ain't ain't. You are allright.

Lol, thank you. I do not think I am truly, as you say, an "intellectual" but more just modeling what my older brother drilled into me. He was a genius, a true thinker.

A little late but you could have played the Devil's Advocate with those decisions. If Merlot is preferred? There is that slight aftertaste not altogether unpleasant yet somewhat intrusive. Crockpot? Am I losing my teeth or need mush for some other reason? Anyway, await your insights.

I say for a pot roast use Zinfandel - the spicy notes are great for that cut and the slow cooking. Or go for a Pinot Noir, which is the main grape for Burgundies, and essential for that French pot roast, Boeuf Bourguignon.

As a little addendum, I came across this little cartoon below, and of course thought immediately of our friend Loki and his extraordinary linguistic sk**ls!

Funny stuff.

Well you certainly know how to speak in "High English" sort of baffles my redneck mind.

I hope you give as much thought (or more?) to your culinary pr********ns for my impending visit next month. I shall await your se******n(s) breathlessly, and with great anticipation. I shan't even consider your failing my expectations. I am already salivating.

Bonjour, Monsieur Loki. 8-)

Thank you. Wish you had met my brother, I think you two would have gotten along famously. At ten I asked my brother what could possibly be wrong with being set loose in a candy store to take freely of its wares. He said, "You tell me." I said to him, "I am a drawing a blank," and he said after a short laugh, "Perfect argument, go for it." I would not get off that easy later in life.

For me, the question remains how does one come to attain a true questioning mind, one that earnestly challenges in pursuit of t***h? Many have a harsh opinion of an open-mind, seeing it as just a repository for wh**ever is presently fashionable, considered enlightened, or delightfully novel. Some discipline seems essential to be true to honest questions about our ideas and beliefs. What are the precepts and principles where we can come to somewhat or heavily rely on the process of Devil's Advocate?

Get outta here. I have encountered a number of "red neck minds" and they all had this basic human wisdom and keenness of spirit. I am somewhat cursed by my older brothers in having trouble talking human.
