Poetry from the Scriptures

Anyone who wants can contribute to this as long as it glorifies our Lord.
I thought it would be nice to go through some of the scriptures and write poetry concerning them, or using them in poetry. I am starting with one from Psm. 147, and the chorus comes from Psm. 149.

BE JOYFUL IN THE KING

He has covered the heavens with clouds,
He prepares the rain.
He makes grass grow on the mountain,
He feeds the beast of the plain.

He has counted the number of stars,
He calls them by their names.
He takes joy in them that fear him,
His Word remains the same.

He has strengthened the bars of our gates,
He's made peace with our borders.
He sends his commands on the earth,
He has set all in order.

He has healed the broken in heart,
He binds up all their wounds.
He brings the wicked down to the ground,
He lifts the humble to Him.

Chorus: Sing to God with thankfulness,
Sing to God from the heart.
Let the children of Zion sing.
Be joyful in the King.

You should copy and paste it here. I won't always use Psalms, but the one I put up I thought was a good starter.
Here is one from several places in the Bible.

HE HAS MADE YOU

You are a light set upon a hill.
This is not by happenstance, but by the Creator's will.

You are the salt of the earth
To bring to life flavor, and this He gave you with birth.

You are an elect race and a royal priesthood
Not in being so that you might glory,
But in so being that you show life to be pure and good.

You are a holy nation; people for God's possession.
And He so blesses that you might live in peace,
Fearless in Him of defeat and oppression.

You are truly the light of the world;
A reflection of the glory of God.

In you His righteousness dwells.
So walk that as He hath made you, comes His approving nod.

The copy it and post it: Like this -

The LORD Is My Shepherd
A Psalm of David.

1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2 He maketh me to lie down in green pastures:

he leadeth me beside the still waters. Rev. 7.17
3 He restoreth my soul:

he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;
thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
5 Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies:

thou anointest my head with oil;
my cup runneth over.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life:

and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.

"He takes joy in them that fear him."
"I will fear no evil: for thou art with me."

Fear appears to have two sources: one that attacks the soul and the other that rejuvenates the soul. Fear in the latter being respect and awe for God. The atheist cannot claim a contradiction.

That is very true - thanks for the observation. I think that is what that part of the poem meant. He does take joy in us - Fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom - Prov. 9:10

Well, if you won't do it, I shall:

I am still looking for others to add to this forum of poems from or about the scriptures. Here is one I found:

His Picture

Let me see if I can paint you a true picture of the Lord.
He stands tall and He is mighty; He holds a double two-edged sword.
He's the light of all the nations; His countenance does shine, Yet the Jesus I have come to know is gently tender, loving, kind.

He's the image, express image of the God who sent Him here.
He cam telling of salvation to all who would lend an ear.
He stands waiting now the judgment dressed in linen pure and fine, But the Jesus I have come to know:
Is gentle, tender, loving, kind.

When there's danger, He's our refuge: If He's for us who'll prevail?
His voice is of rushing waters; without Him all else fails.
Can't you see there is none greater than this Jesus Lord of mine? And the Jesus I have come to know...
Is gentle, tender, loving, kind.
Poem by Akerman

This is taken from Psm. 147, and the refrain from Psm 149

BE JOYFUL IN THE KING

He has covered the heavens with clouds
He prepares the rain
He makes grass grow on the mountains
He feeds the beasts of the plain.

He has counted the number of stars
He calls them by their names
He takes joy in them that fear him
His word remains the same.

He has strengthened the bars of our gates
He's made peace with our borders
He sends his commands on the earth
He has set all in order.

He has healed the broken of heart
He binds up all their wounds
He brings the wicked down to the ground
He lifts the humble to him.

Refrain:
Sing to God with thankfulness
Sing to God from the heart
Let the children of Zion sing
Be joyful in the King.

From Mark 10:14 JESUS SAYS OF THE CHILDREN

Let the children come unto me.
Let them pass, let them be.
For unto them belongs the kingdom,
They are mine, they belong to me.

I counted every hair I placed on their heads
Put smiles on their faces as they slept in their beds
Sent guardian angels their pathways to light
Before the womb, I held them all through the night.

Hinder not their footsteps as they come to me
If you cause one to stumble, then woe unto thee
Become as the children; place your trust in me.
My love is sufficient to encompass thee.

Let the children come unto me.
Let them pass, let them be,
For unto them belongs the kingdom;
They are mine, they belong to me.
