An Anne Arundel County police officer was shot and critically wounded Friday morning near Annapolis, and authorities said late Friday night that a suspect was in custody.

Police said the suspect was picked up in Severn, and they identified him as Colvin Lamar White, 30, of the 1600 block of Clay Hill Road in Annapolis.

He was charged with attempted murder and other offenses, police said, including conspiracy to commit robbery.

It appeared that the man may have been picked up as early as 9 a.m., as a “person of interest.” Late Friday, police said they were continuing to investigate.

Police spokesman T.J. Smith said the officer went to a 7-Eleven in the 700 block of College Parkway East in Arnold, near Annapolis, shortly after 2 a.m. Friday. A person there told him that someone standing outside the store seemed suspicious. After calling for backup, the officer confronted the man, Smith said.

Agreed! And good morning.

I don't know about you, but I am tired of the stupidity of some OPP members. One tonight actually suggested "open season" on all police!!
