Here is a Fox news story about a woman who kept a gun in her home to protect her family. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2015/04/02/funeral-held-for-12-year-old-boy-and-6-year-old-brother-shot-in-argument-in/?intcmp=ob_article_footer_text&intcmp=obnetwork

The gun owner was irresponsible, and the death of these children is inexcusable. However, it should be a relief to know the study initiated by the White House show that gun ownership is not bad. "But a new report commissioned by the White House titled Priorities for Research to Reduce the Threat of Firearm-related Violence suggests what many self defense gun proponents have been saying for years. The report, ordered under one of President Obama’s 23 Executive Orders signed in the wake of the Sandy Hook incident, asked the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the National Research Council and other federal agencies to identify the “most pressing problems in firearms violence.”

To the surprise of the authors and those who would no doubt have used the report to further restrict access to personal defense firearms, the study found that gun ownership actually saves lives and those who have a firearm at their disposal improve their chances of survival and reduce their chance of injury in the event they are confronted by a violent criminal." See Full Study available at the National Academy of Sciences.

Last year in the city that I live a grandmother backing out of her sons driveway ran over and k**led her five year old grandson,a terrible tragedy.things like this happen every day no matter how old you are.
So Kevyn if you have a point, make it.

Good Point. Bad things happen. Adults need to think .... because children often fail to think.

Thank you!!

Responsible gun ownership, is exactly like responsible ownership of anything which has the capacity to k**l. I grew up in a house filled guns. The difference is as a small child I knew they were not toys. I was taught to respect weapons. To disassemble, reassemble, clean, and fire with accuracy every weapon in the collection. My father made sure I understood the use of a pistol is to k**l another human being, nothing else. It is the last resort in protecting your family. If forced to do so, it will stay with you for the rest of your life. You are taking something, you can not give back. Only as a last resort do you do this and only when you have no other choice.

Parents who own guns have a responsibility to teach children. Do we outlaw autos because some people drive drunk? Do we outlaw plastic bags because some parents have allowed their small children to play with them resulting in the death of a child?

It is a tragedy, that these children were k**led. My heart goes out to their family. Changing gun laws will not protect children. Personally, I feel it will have the opposite effect. Criminals will be the only ones with guns making these children, everyone is so concerned about, walking victims.

I too grew up with weapons in the home. They were kept in a safe place.... and I might add that they were loaded. I was taught how to shoot and learned respect for the damage a slug could do because when we went hunting we dressed out the animals. And I learned how to break down, clean and store a gun.... Papa taught me that guns do not k**l.... they are a tool that has to be treated with extreme care. People use that tool, and at times not for the benefit of acquiring food or self protection, but rather for revenge or to take from others.

Well said. My daughter is growing up much the same. She also knows not to play with chainsaws, blenders, knives and not to yank the dog's tail if you don't want to get bit.

Yank the dog's tail or insist that kitty take baths!!!

I taught my kids.... the foster kids, our adopted kids, and those who just came to stay.... about how to use knives and animals. My husband taught them to use chainsaws, guns and bows... They are all safety conscious and have taught their children well.

Thank you for the grin!!

I recall my second adopted son.... he was about 3 when he came to us. One night I heard a commotion in the bathroom....crying and such. In those days, we used to use this stuff in the toilet that turned the water blue....you may be too young to remember.... anyway, I ran down the hall just in time to see a bright blue streak coming from the bathroom down the hall. My son had bright blue hands and supported a large cat scratch....and the kitty, well she was blue for weeks!! I stopped using that stuff and leaving my son alone on his boo boo chair!!!
