My opinion: it is not our purpose or business to make the world a better, safer, place for our children. It is up to us to solely live to honor God.

and when we honor God we ARE making the world a better, safer place for our children. honoring God includes loving our neighbors and helping them be the best people that they can be. That makes it a better place for our children. Honoring God includes teaching our children right from wrong and that gives them the strength and guidance to make the right decisions to lead a moral life, and the ability to reach out in love toward those who need God's love and guidance.

Perhaps, npp. This was not true for early Christians under Rome. Safe, in my view, as well as certainty, has no place in following Christ. Right and wrong is written, as I see it, on the hearts of all: it is our place to demonstrate the uncompromising and crazy love of Christ to our children. What conscience God has given them be expanded as in Matthew Five and the Beatitudes. A thankless, perilous, mocked, and absurd way to live.

Children should be "guided" and not "taught" to follow our own opinions. What is necessary is to respect our children and accept that they also have minds.

As "a child's spinning top"? Precisely. Freedom of choice is high on our list of essentials. If we are not free to choose, if all is predestined and we are just puppets or automatons manipulated in every facet of our existence to do as a god or God wants for his own desires or purposes, life is devoid of meaning for all on earth. But if instead God gave us all that is necessary to create an eden on earth and gave us the latitude to do so or not, as a loving parent may provide every opportunity for our greatest advantage to happiness and success and then leave us to choose, granting us that freedom of will and heart, who is at fault if we fail or misuse such gifts?

You want freedom of conscience and will? God gave you that. A father that handed over the family business to you. It is our hands, not at his discretion and power...unless we surrender that role to him once again.

God gives us free will, but that does not mean he wants us to be stupid and evil. He wants us to be moral. He sets out rules for us to follow. Yes we can and do break the rules. When this life is over we will stand before him and answer for everything.

We are free to live however we want, but freedom is not free. There is a price for everything.

Your children are not your children. They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you, And though they are with you yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts, For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls, For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you. For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

My dad had that record.
