Good Bye Barbie

I am furious. A new toy from Mattel marketed as an inter-active toy is actually a corporate surveillance tool. "Hello Barbie" will record your child's conversations and t***smit them to cloud servers where they will be analyzed to determine the child's likes and dislikes.

I can only speak for myself but I do not want my child's play monitored by sneaky corporations. I do not want my conversations, in the privacy of my home overheard by a corporation. If I am having a conversation in the same room with spy Barbie then Mattel now has illegally bugged my home.

When does it stop? Is privacy just a bad joke in this country? At what point is over the line for corporate rule? I do not know about you but I say if there is a line Mattel just stepped over it.

Mattel has absolutely no right putting corporate surveillance devices in our homes. Nothing is safe from the greed of these corporations not even the innocent play of a child.

Well if you think that's an invasion of privacy, if you have a new television set, you might want to consider, most are programed to t***smit as well as receive and have been for years.

I was aware. I don't watch T.V. due mostly to a comment I made to the grandchildren: T.V. rots your brain. They remind of this every time I attempt to watch any program. The selective memory of children is a wonderful thing.

I don't like h**e radio, so I tune out for the most part and inform company's that advertise on h**e radio that I will not do business with them. My suggestion is that if you don't like "snitch Barbie" don't buy one for the little princess in your life, and tell the company who sells the toy. The thing to remember is that each time you buy something with your credit card, walk through a store with your smart phone on, change channel on your TV or drive a late model car you are being spied on by corporations. More importantly the corporations have no obligation to you to keep this information private they can sell it, give it to other companies or turn it over to the government without your knoweledge or consent. Arn't our new tech toys great?

The only thing on which I have ever agreed with Senator Elizabeth Warren is her opposition to the TPP, and the Patriot Act. One needs to be repealed, the other should never see the light of day. I never thought I'd see the day when Warren and I agreed on anything, but although I h**e to admit it, she is 100% spot on this time, near as I can tell.
Both of these invasions of privacy are carte blanche for government and corporate snoops. Given the fact that Democrats have now surpassed Republicans in Corporate donations, it requires little in the way of deductive reasoning ability to follow the money and figure out who is in whose pocket.

Agreed. When you consider how many times your child's information will be sold for the bottom line, can your government be far behind?

Scary it is. I have taken to covering up my laptop webcam and for a bit now from time to time, I, along with my husband, have heard what sounds like "normal" background noise, sounding like chatter, emanating from my computer. I have checked each time to make sure I had no sites inadvertently left on that might have sound. If it weren't for the fact that my husband hears what I do, I would worry that I was becoming paranoid. I almost wish it was "only" paranoia creeping in.
