http://preservefreedom.org/1-picture-shows-a-student-proving-to-his-teacher-just-how-bad-common-core-really-is/Want to know why our students don't measure up to the rest of the world.
This is a perfect example of just how bad math is, in common core. Come on teachers, smarten up. What you are doing, is the indoctrination of stupid into our children.
If you dont think so, try doing this to a mathematical equation. Oh say an orbital flight plan, where by the trajectory of a space shuttle has to meet the right flight path to land on the moon.
Can you not see just a little bit of a problem?

To answer the title's question; in Liberalopia.
The question is simple: tell how to make ten out of 8+5.
7+3
6+4
5+5
2+8
I can see why a child might have questions, but why would adults not get it? And why blame common core, as the article does?

The topic of the lesson was not shown. however i do this all the time, in my head, not on paper, for my monthly bills, taxes, etc. if u add numbers like
6274
4299
1899
2299
7899
in ur head just say 4x9+4 =40 , the answer is 0 and carry the 4... the next is 4x9+7+4=47, answer is 7 and carry the 4 .. this makes it a lot faster with double check it is even faster. just go over it again.. Im sure if u had seen the topic of the subject, u wud have understood. It didnt mention the grade of school it was teaching, or i didnt see it if it did.. Teachers taught this in the 7th grade when i was in school and with subtractions too, saying it cud be used in many forms of life

I like that "obamanation" if you tell a lie over & over &...infinitude it will then be considered the t***h.

I've got something MUCH simpler
8+5=13.
What's wrong with the tried and true method that's been successfully used hundreds of years to teach mathematics?

The question on the board wasn't: what does 5+8 equal.

You missed my point. We don't need some convoluted way to do math that takes longer and doesn't make sense. There is nothing wrong with the tried and true method that's been used to teach math for hundreds of years.

they blame common core and the feds who pushed c.c. because there is no correct answer. if the child can explain how he or she came up with the answer they have, then it's correct. it's called dumbing down America. but scence the government said this is the proper way. your going to believe them aren't you little statist puppet.

The point for any adult showed be, who cares? What good is it to know how or why? And what good dose is do any one, in the process of critical thinking?
Now some would say, that it is all about critical thinking. No it is not.
For all you are doing is putting mud in the water. Outcome of course is muddy thinking.
The development of math has taken over several thousand years. And it has gotten the human race far, world wide. Now along comes CC to just change all that, because they think they know better than lifes experience. There is an old saying,
if its not broke, dont fix it.

"you little statist puppet."? Awww, now you've gone and hurt my feelings.
The problem with dishing insults is two fold: 1) I've been called much worse already on this site so I'm pretty much immune to such pettiness, and 2) it shows more about you than me.
And how exactly is explaining how one comes up with an answer a sign of dumbing down? In those states that have adopted and tested the CC standards, grades fell because students are expected to know more.

NOT! I do not believe in political correctness. it's fraudulent. there is no reality to it. it's a pretenders game. wait to see. but when you do see it will be way to late. I don't need to know you. your just a wrench in the cogs.

Not to mention putting a man on the moon. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. DUH!
