Merle Haggard - It's 'Almost Criminal' What They Do To Our President

by Leslie SalzilloFollow .

A Merle Haggard quote has been circulating social media over the last two days, almost as if it appeared in response to the incredible disrespect shown to President Obama by Republicans in Congress and foreign leader, Benjamin Netanyahu. The quote is from a 2010 Rolling Stone interview. Patrick Doyle spoke with music legend Merle Haggard, who was attending the 33rd Kennedy Center Honors. Haggard was invited to the White House to receive a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Doyle asked Merle Haggard about President Obama, and the traditional 'stone-country' singer-songwriter said he enjoyed meeting Obama and found the President to be quite different from what he had seen in the media. That's when Haggard interestingly added:

Merle Haggard:
"It's really almost criminal what they do with our President. There seems to be no shame or anything. They call him all kinds of names all day long, saying he's doing certain things that he's not. It's just a big old political game that I don't want to be part of. There are people spending their lives putting him down. I'm sure some of it's true and some of it's not. I was very surprised to find the man very humble and he had a nice handshake. His wife was very cordial to the guests and especially me. They made a special effort to make me feel welcome. It was not at all the way the media described him to be."
Doyle asked, 'What's the biggest lie out there about Obama?'
Merle Haggard:
"He's not conceited. He's very humble about being the President of the United States, especially in comparison to some presidents we've had who come across like they don't need anybody's help. I think he knows he's in over his head. Anybody with any sense who takes that job and thinks they can handle it must be an i***t."
When Doyle asked if Haggard talked to the President much, the interview took a much lighter tone:
Merle Haggard:
"I told him, "You and I have something in common: our wives are both taller than we are." And he said "No! She's got on 3-inch heels! And she is not that tall!" He was like me. He grabbed that real quick."
Merle Haggard's compassion and straightforwardness seem to be just want many of us needed after the GOP once again shamed themselves, and this nation, by s*******sly spiting the President of the United States. Reading Haggard's words again, was like a glorious breath of fresh air - an affirmation and validation of the thoughts many of us have been feeling.
Merle Haggard was 73 at the time the Rolling Stone interview. That night he stood alongside other living legends like Sir Paul McCartney and Oprah Winfrey. And this was not his first invitation to the White House. Merle Haggard has also been the guest of both President Nixon and President Reagan.

It's easy to see why Merle Haggard is loved by millions. He's the 'real deal'. Having been involved in the music industry in Nashville, I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Haggard years ago - a truly charming man. It's as if that rough exterior, from once leading a very rough life, just sort of melts away when you shake his hand. You can feel his warmth. And looking into his eyes, you can almost see through to his heart of gold.

Visit/Like Merle Haggard's Facebook Page - Here. The man is still touring at 77, and last year Merle teamed up with pals Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson to make an album.

Thank you, Merle Haggard. You are loved.

He definitely could see the unwarranted hatred coming from those who could not accept a Black president. Hatred that started the day that he was sworn in.

Haggard must be in the first stages of Alzheimer's. He did smoke weed a lot in his days, guess it fried a lot of brain cells. But then, I wouldn't take anything the DailyKos prints as gospel for anything, but you libtards will swallow anything the left-wing media feeds you...t***h be damned.

One must realize this was written in 2010 when many were still mesmerized by the first 'Black President'. This was five years ago, prior to all his machinations becoming known. Unfortunately, there are many still in a deluded state, following him as the Second Coming and forgiving of all his depredations that are affecting the Country and its People.

The legendary Willie Nelson may have endorsed Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson in the 2012 p**********l race, but when it comes down to a choice between President Obama and his Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, it looks like the entertainer has chosen to go with the incumbent president.

Speaking to reporters on the red carpet at last week’s CMA Awards — where he was presented with a special tribute and Lifetime Achievement Award — Nelson initially demurred when a journalist from CNN asked him if he knew who he was v****g for. “No, I don’t yet. I’m one of the undecided,” Nelson stated. But his wife was having none if it.

“You’re not a holdout!” she protested, prompting the reporter to ask, “You’re an Obama guy, aren’t you?”

“She’s an Obama gal,” Nelson responded with a grin toward his wife.

“He has a wife — he’s an Obama guy,” she rejoined playfully.

Although the exchange was all in good humor, Nelson acknowledged that he feels Obama is the better choice on certain issues. “For the women, I think Obama’s the guy,” he said. Asked if he was referring to women’s health care choices, Nelson nodded, adding, “I think that’s a big issue, and I think that’s one that Obama’s on the right side of history. And I think that’ll have a big influence on the e******n. And I think I’ll probably v**e for him.”

Nelson also gave the sitting president props for his handling of the Hurricane Sandy disaster and its aftermath. “He’s really shown what a president’s supposed to do … he’s acted very p**********l, and it’s nice to see him and Gov. Christie coming together and showing us what’s it like when to people who were originally on opposite sides come together for the good of the country.”

Somehow we suspect that if President Obama were to come down on the side of legalizing marijuana, Nelson would go out and fund his own Super Pac in an effort to re-elect him.

"Yeah, I think what President Obama is finding out is all that we want to do, the system kind of doesn't allow the most powerful guy in the world to kind of do his job and I'm sure nobody's more frustrated than him to complete those promises that he did and I think he's trying his heart out. I love him to death and I fully support him and I just wish him well because it's got to be hell in that office," said Brooks.

Brooks' comments come as many celebrities who supported President Obama in the 2008 e******n including Matt Damon and Barbra Streisand have publicly expressed disappointment in President Obama.

Brooks, the closing act in the ceremony, also said the entire political system in America has him "concerned."

"The whole political system kind of has me concerned right now to tell you the t***h --200 years old and we might think of about, you know, kind of kicking it in the ass a little bit. It just seems like we v**e for things because they're Republican or Democratic," he told CNSNews.com.
"I think we should v**e for them because they're right or wrong and we kind of have seemed to have fallen into that trap so that would be the one warning I would give all us," he said. "Put down where you're from and what f**g you fly under and let's get to putting the best person, man or women in the office and let's start making some strides."

The Angel Moroni (/moʊˈroʊnaɪ/[1]) is, in Mormonism, an angel that visited Joseph Smith on numerous occasions, beginning on September 21, 1823. According to Smith, the angel was the guardian of the golden plates, which Latter Day Saints believe were the source material for the Book of Mormon, buried in a hill near Smith's home in western New York. Moroni is an important figure in the theology of the Latter Day Saint movement, and is featured prominently in Mormon architecture and art. Three Witnesses besides Smith also reported that they saw Moroni in visions in 1829, as did several other witnesses who each said they had their own vision.

Moroni is thought by Latter Day Saints to be the same person as a Book of Mormon prophet-warrior named Moroni, who was the last to write in the golden plates. The book states that Moroni buried them before he died after a great battle between two pre-Columbian civilizations. After he died, he became an angel, and was tasked with guarding the golden plates, and with eventually directing Smith to their location in the 1820s. According to Smith, he returned the golden plates to Moroni after they were t***slated and as of 1838 the angel Moroni still had the plates in his possession.
