This is a strange place to comment about books.
This particular book may have a nitch audience among the posters from the right and the left may simply find it a good read.
D J Box wrote about 20 books in his series about JOE PICKETT, a Wyoming game warden who covers 3800 acres of wilderness, often on horse back..
BRAKING POINT is one of the latest, published around 2012.
It is not a political novel, but has a cast of characters who match many of the stereotypes most of us have in our minds. People who got good jobs and position of power because of who they know rather then what they know.
A new boss of wardens, a woman who once visited a zoo and saw a bear, now runs the states wardens and is planning a full scale change in how they operate. From desks, not horseback.
ex-CIA now jaded by the system to only going with the flow, no concern for the actual right or wrong, just do the job and retire.
A forest service who seals off public land and fail to manage as needed and the forest goes to ruin from bug infestations.
Stoic, independent old rancher, been on the range for generations, has no time for Government agents.
Villains galore, retired IRS, ex law men, now corrupt and self serving, State Governor, as nutty as anyone could be but wins big time.. Following Washington whims..
Best of all the arch villain,, Director of the EPA.. region 8....
From chapter one, 2 armed EPA agents on a final mission to the use of drones and missiles to murder an American citizen, the pace is very good and characters well developed.. The bad guys, including a gun nut who goes from silent and sulky to babbling over his amazing shot to k**l a hiker who is only a by passer. 1800 yards, he is so excited, can not stop talking..
The motive of course turn out to be personal and not political.
And of course, The inspiration for the book is the Sackett vs Idaho case, which most are familiar with..
So, those of you who like books and have spare time, give this book a shot, it is a good read and well done..
One of my favorite writers. I used to like Stephen King but then I found out what a fooging liberal he is.
