Welcome to the Neighborhood

Mika and I went to the seed n feed yesterday. The gentlemen who owns the store informed me we have a new neighbor. My closest neighbor is ten miles away therefore, I consider fifteen miles away a neighbor.

I took Mika home. I put together a welcome basket and drove to the new neighbors' house. As I was not invited, it was my intent to simply leave the basket. That was not the case. An elderly gentleman invited me in.

My new neighbors are Romany. I spent the afternoon listening to wonderful stories. When they were young, they traveled Europe in a vardo (wagon). They shared wonderful stories regarding: travel, music, dance, campfires, and staying one step ahead of the N**is.

Because they are not always well received, they are a little nervous about living here. I will host an open house next week-end enabling all us forest creatures to meet our new additions. I believe once they realize what a warm and welcoming place this is, they will feel safe. What a wonderful opportunity for the children here to learn about a vanishing culture.

I'm sure they will feel more comfort in their new community by enabling them to meet their new neighbors. You have a good heart!

You are lucky. This is not the normal way for "Travelers" to behave. They are, by nature of their past, cautious when it comes to outsiders. Wonderful people with rich history, but very cautious. I am so glad for your experience and I hope that you and your new neighbor find enjoyment in each other's company for years to come. Thank you for sharing....

I suspect most anyone would feel welcome in your presence, She Wolf. It is the impression I get from your posts. Enjoy your new neighbors while having a great open house party.

Indeed, it would be a far richer place, wouldn't it. :-)

Being kind and understanding and loving is goal I strive for daily. Sometimes I fail. But with practice, those principles are becoming ingrained. Thank love, attitudes can change with effort.

I think our intentions are well meant, to be kinder and more noble, but we are, after all, human, and we ALL sometimes stumble. I've committed some real doosies  I have, however, learned to be kinder to myself after stumbling and regaining my footing, my determination just made a little stronger to "do no harm."

Yes, Searching. I seem to be harder and more unforgiving of myself than I am with others. However, like you said, being kind to myself is a growing process. 😊
