Those are Manta Rays. Right? I catch sting rays in the Gulf all the time. They're a pain in the ass or where ever they sting you.

Sting rays yes. Mantas no. I have seen videos of people petting mantas. They are gentle.

I have seen videos of people petting sting rays too. There are some that have been fed and treated to almost everything they like and divers are taken there to feed them and play with them. As long as you do not try to confine them or treat them badly, they will not attack. That's how Steve got k**led by one. He made the mistake of grabbing one and it felt threatened. There has never been an instance of anyone being attacked unless they did something wrong.

Most I know who have been stung either hooked them or stepped on them. I generally try to release them unharmed if I inadvertently hook one.

I lived on the beach in Florida on the gulf for several years. Others on here know more about these rays than I do. I always heard the mantas are much larger. We used to have a small white or sand colored ray we called skates in the shallow water near the beach. I was told they are harmless.

They are not agressive, but if you happen to step on one by accident, you get stung big time. We had a rash of stings last summer by bathers on the Atlantic coast.
