Subject: THE RIFLE THAT AMAZED THE INDIANS

This is the air rifle that Lewis and Clark took on their expedition and AMAZED the Indians!!! Very interesting. It takes 1500 strokes to pump this rifle to full pressure, after which it could shoot more than 400 .46 cal. round balls, each of which can blast a clean hole through a 1 inch pine board at 100 yards.

This is a VERY interesting gun ! O.K. how many of you very gun knowledgeable folks out there even knew that a rifle like this ever existed?, especially way back then? I hope you enjoy this like I did.

This video is with sound and great on full screen.

They were invented in England in the 1700's where they were promptly outlawed. It was feared that they would become the weapon of choice for assassins. Like the Ferguson breach loading flintlock rifle, they should have been developed more than they were.

Read this somewhere else. Yup, that air rifle was lethal. I guess it really impressed the tribes they ran into with very good reason. For all purposes it was inexhaustible. That's what got them.
I gave each male grandchild a much newer version. They love them and hold matches while showing for all weapons safety standards. Their father and I insist on that. They are all great marksman. Marksboy's I guess. Great learner tools. They know that even the low mass .177 cal @ 1200fps can damage a great deal.
Anyway, interesting fact. Back when I had strength in my legs and air in my lungs I trekked the Lewis and Clark Trail along the eastern Idaho/Montana boarder. Most excellent country.
So this folk out there knew !! A veritable sink hole of weird facts. lol
Along with a dollar fifty I could buy a cup of coffee. But yes, a good post.

You will have a hard time proving that. Check out Wikipedia.

That still does not give the year of invention. Here is a history of airguns.

Very interesting, I have never heard of that air rifle. I have owned air rifles in the past but nothing compared to this one. This is amazing, and is probably superior to what is being produced to day.
