Antisocialist- I completely agree with you on this. Prior job experience is more often a requirement for a lot of jobs out there. No one and I mean no one should be given anything based on their ethnicity. PERIOD!

Another point I forgot to mention was that by providing a job based on skin color alone actually more often than not is that the likelyhood of failure by an individual hired for this reason alone. In these times if a person of color is "GIVEN" a job and fails the ole race card is pulled out! Just sayin.

To my knowledge, quarantine is only necessary if one is crossing a body of water to arrive at their destination. It doesn't hold true if a pet is relocating on the same continent. This is the last information I received but I may be wrong. If you're really interested in relocating, check it out with the CR Consulate. You should be able to get their address on line.

 Thank you but it won't be right away. Responsibilities here. I also lived in Belize over 30+ years ago. I know it has changed a lot. I would be interested in going back to see. It is English speaking. But man does it get hot. Very third world back then. Belize is just under Mexico. Costa Rica is kind of in the center of Central America. I don't think it is very safe to drive all the way down unless you were in a convoy and well armed. I flew. But you could go buy cruise ship.

Firstly, one must get rid of prejudices. I am talking when I find that the older I get the more feminist are my ideas. I have always believed that there are jobs that should be done by women and definitely, those relegated to men. Because of physical differences, I've always believed that there are around-the-house jobs that should definitely be left to men - those jobs that require upper body strength such as vacuuming, floor mopping and window washing. But on the other hand, women can certainly wield a pain brush.

The reason I choose those tasks is that in order to apply the required pressure, the woman t***sfers the stress to the abdomen. I could certainly put up a wall better than my husband (he wasn't too handy in spite of his brilliance).

At my age of 80 I must say I am annoyed with men still trying to score. I passed too many years feeling like a steak rather than being appreciated for my thoughts. Regarding mental work, I still think the female g****r, with the exception of those females who are trained not to think, can easily outdo the male.

In politics, with the exception of those two ditzes, Palin and Michelle what's her name, women can do a better job and would be working for peace. As an example: Warren (she is something else and I admire her in almost every area). In psychological tests the results have shown that when things are difficult, women will join together for strength rather than fighting. That fighting was necessary during the era of the cavemen but diplomacy would work much better today. As President Obama says, "war should be used ONLY as a last resort when diplomacy does not work." This world needs more men like him I can imagine the flack I'll be getting from that comment.

Oh, it is nice to have a door held open for one but I believe that should go both ways. I always hold a door open for anyone who is following me or is struggling with a burden. That's known as humanity.

I admire our President for his vision, empathy and emotional strength. Not too many could stand up to the crap that's been handed to him and still maintain dignity. If he behaved like most in Congress, we would have been at war over two years ago. I am often amazed at the lack of knowledge (as well as common sense) existing in so many of our "leaders."

I don't read Ms Magazine or even Good Housekeeping. I prefer National Geographic and viewing the interesting presentations on TED.com.

By the way, Galena is developing into an absolutely beautiful female. She is still holding onto her color with the exception of two little puffs of white directly behind her ears. Interestingly enough (ready for this?) Mierdito has become extra loving. It took him over two years to become so and he behaves more like a dog. Since you claim to speak Spanish, is it necessary to provide a t***slation of his name? I used the English version and decided it would sound better in Spanish. He is my prime breeder now and has such style with the ladies. Big Red is still trying unsuccessfully. I do wish he'd connect because he is such an exquisite cat.

I do hope you're having a great weekend. ;) ;) ;)

I indeed am having a great weekend so far and am preparing to get my darlin' dinner. She just loves my burning cigars for mood effect and, never hits me too hard when the ashes hit her floor, well not on Valentine's Day anyway.

I agree with many of your points my friend. I think my shift to being a more understanding male, if not feminist totally in thought, is from having Low T. I take shots for it and, it brings me back around.

My wife and I are very egalitarian with our responsibilities. I find she chooses the best jobs for herself and dumps everything else on me. If I complain, she beats me like a drum and so, I grudgingly offer little resistance. Seriously, we split most chores based upon our abilities and religious creeds.

At 80, you have earned the right to tell us guys to take a hike. It's an impressive age and no small feat getting there!

I was teasing you about Ms. Magazine but you probably guessed that.

Great news on your charges! I can't determine the meaning of Mierdito's name, help, help, help.

It's always good to read your thoughts, hope you're all mended now and have a Happy Valentine's Day weekend!

It's okay my friend, I do it for reasons of incompetence so, no problemo.

Little Mierda, got it. I don't know why it wouldn't show up in a search. More of my brilliance showing again I suspect?

So what she has done is replaced her cat with a cagar? I hope she knows the risks inherent in that!

Feel free to ask me anything. I will be honest with you in my replies and for the most part my responses will be based on evidence and not just on gut feelings. So, do ask. I welcome dialogues.

And yes.... I am so tired of Rod, so tired that I asked him to stop using my name, I also tried to explain that I am not sympathetic to his causes and find nothing in common with him/her/it. I made a mistake of trying to include a person who expressed loneliness and a need to be included. I invited it into a general chit chat. A COLOSAL MISTAKE!!

As for reporting issues. I have in the past....but the person was even more perverted (and is now gone) than Rod. So, I am not above using the report issue button....but, I really think about it a long time and I would have to be certain that the individual was not just insulting my sensibilities but others who are known for calm responses and comments.

Pennylynn- Hello there! I'm sorry I don't remember if I ever replied to a comment you may have made in the past. If not well hello and it's nice to chat with you. I am always honest in my posts and admit to foul language when I get amped up a bit. I am a retired Marine and combat vet like many here on OPP. My emotions do get riled up when I read a post from someone denegrating our country and it's service people. Especially when one of them actually comes and let's his/hers/it's true feelings come out denegrating our military men and women with comments like and I'm paraphrasing " It's hillariius to think or know that all they (military vets fighting in the Middle East ) something to consider as an accomplishment for JUST MAKING IT BACK HOME ALIVE FROM A TOUR OF COMBAT. I take complete exception to that train of thought and comment!! You have seen the comment. I can't imagine you feel that way of for that matter anyone actually saying that aloud. In any event, I look forward to your future comments. Have a GOODUN!

Nahhhhhhhhhhh, just kidding about Texas.

Hey, when you head down that way, could ya swing by and get me and mi amigo Poppa Gringo? We have worn out both the women and our welcome here in the states and we have been asked to leave yet another place.

You may have noticed we practice our Spanglish when we're on here, just in case there's room.

A little side information: Castillian Spanish is not spoken in CR. A rule of thumb is that any word which would (in Spanish) end in "ito" such as momentito, is pronounced as momentico. The natives refer to themselves as Ticos. This was part of an effort to separate CR from Spain. Often, in the morning, people greet each other with "pura vida" which is more like a blessing similar to"aloha" in Hawaii. AND the "usted" form is preferred and not "tu." They are very polite people.

I don't know if this small lesson pleases you, but you got it. In Texas the Spanish spoken is mainly border Spanish and could never be understood by a Spaniard.

Pura Vida! :D :D :D

Years ago, even when EOE became law, b****s were not being hired even if they had the same qualifications as w****s. I know this because I lived through it. It began to be enforced but I want to be clear, b****s were NOT given jobs based on skin color. Even if the black applicant had greater sk**ls or knowledge, they were not being hired. This is where the phrase "token black" came into being. Companies, not wishing to hire b****s were investigated (not in a big way) to note if b****s were being passed over in spite of their greater capabilities.

I worked in the Publications Dept. of IBM and was aware that we did have our "token black" employee. He actually had a better education than most working in that office but I'm sure he was hired just "to be on the right side of the law." This offered the opportunity to people of color to show their capabilities and have the same opportunity as anyone else.

I no longer believe that employers are pressed to hire their percentage of b****s. I hope that is the case. The b****s really did need the "hand up" in those days.

It makes no sense to say "most b***k A******ns now regret v****g for Barry". Everyone knows better. Also, President Obama's history as an American dates back to relatives who fought in the Revolutionary War. You can't get much more American than that. Of course, he is of mixed race but it is a tradition in this country to call anyone with black ancestors black. Get over it.

From what I've learned, Beliz has become quite popular. The living there is cheaper than CR but the living style is different. At least 20 years ago their industry was quite primitive. In case you're interested, the CR government offers free classes in Spanish for expats. There are also international clubs so that you can enjoy speaking your native language with compadres.

There has been, for many years, a super highway straight down the west side of Mexico and into Latin America. It is usually possible to meet others traveling that route in order to make a caravan. The author of one travelog book I've read did say he and his wife took the trip. It is not recommended to travel by night. I was planning to drive the distance as I think it would be interesting just to pass through the other countries on the way. I think I would look for a travel companion.

Regarding the pets, the human is required to have certificates for all the animals'shots.

Oh, I've just started feeding my cats diatomaceous earth. Just sprinkle it on their food (yes, even dry). I had read that it was fed to sheep to keep them free from internal parasites. I also use it on their coats to keep fleas and ticks away. You might want to try it on your dogs. Be careful to order from a good distributor as most of the stuff sold in aquariums is junk. If it doesn't look finer and white than flour, go somewhere else.

I do hope this information helps. Happy Valentine's Day.

And, yes, I perceive the intent in your parting shot. Anyway, not knowing your age, or if you've ever read "Lonesome Dove"or watched the epic movie based on the works of Larry McMurtry, (a good ol Texas Boy)I could be wasting my time explaining what I see as an analogy between a character in the movie and you. The character is Laurie. Gus, another of the main characters is fond of Laurie, but he's also growing weary of listening to Laurie complain about where she's at, and her lot in life, and, if she could just get to, I think it is San Francisco, every thing would magically be okay. Gus in his exasperation finally says to her, "Laurie darlin, life is just life no matter where we happen to be" or something like that! So, my point being, try to see the good things about Texas. I don't suppose you would find the rich history of Texas all that glorious,or interesting, in your present frame of mind, but I can assure you that no other state can compare with the mystique, adventure, and romance, of Texas. However, I will suggest that a man's point of view could be quite different than a woman's. I remember reading a passage in one of the many articles I've read on Texas and its history that stated, "Texas is a state loved by men and dogs" which I found to be a profound assessment of the "Texas" of that era.

Richard, I've had a long career in Flamenco Dance. I began in NY and directed my own school. In Phoenix I was able to open a school and was accepted by the Arizona Comm. on the Arts through which both myself and company performed throughout that state. Their Commission was of great assistance to its artists. When I came to Texas I got in touch with the Comm. here and also got to know a few of those who belonged. I gave them my background and never heard another word. A friend who participated in that group told me that they definitely DO NOT help their artists in any way. Arizona had a large volume listing and giving bios of all their artists. Texas has nothing and, if an artist does not do sufficient performances (which they must acquire themselves), they are dropped.

I see so much talent in the city in which I dwell but nothing is done to help them. Lubbock has a Buddy Holly museum but he had to leave this place in order to gain a reputation. After he became famous he was considered a "son of Lubbock." BS! Now they're only looking to make money from his success.

I, after having the school in NY, went to Phoenix and began one there. In Carlsbad, NM (as small as that town is) I was able to teach. I tried it for 1-1/2 years here and was never able to make the nut. I have arrived at the decision that there is nothing for me in this place because I don't deal in either cotton or football (the only interests).

After learning about the government in this state, I just want out of Texas. I've never seen such a large group of small-minded jackasses (apologies to the jackasses).

Have a good one.
