The fiddling with temperature data is the biggest science scandal ever
New data shows that the warming trend is not the result of runaway g****l w*****g, but a big s**m. Have you wondered why is Boston under 6 feet of snow if the world is getting hottet?
When future generations look back on the global-warming scare of the past 30 years, nothing will shock them more than the extent to which the official temperature records – on which the entire panic ultimately rested – were systematically “adjusted” to show the Earth as having warmed much more than the actual data justified.
Two weeks ago, under the headline “How we are being tricked by flawed data on g****l w*****g”, Paul Homewood, who, on his Notalotofpeopleknowthat blog, had checked the published temperature graphs for three weather stations in Paraguay against the temperatures that had originally been recorded. In each instance, the actual trend of 60 years of data had been dramatically reversed, so that a cooling trend was changed to one that showed a marked warming.
This was only the latest of many examples of a practice long recognised by expert observers around the world – one that raises an ever larger question mark over the entire official surface-temperature record.
Homewood checked a swathe of other South American weather stations around the original three. In each case he found the same suspicious one-way “adjustments”. First these were made by the US government’s Global Historical Climate Network (GHCN). They were then amplified by two of the main official surface records, the Goddard Institute for Space Studies (Giss) and the National Climate Data Center (NCDC), which use the warming trends to estimate temperatures across the vast regions of the Earth where no measurements are taken. Yet these are the very records on which scientists and politicians rely for their belief in “g****l w*****g”.
Homewood has now turned his attention to the weather stations across much of the Arctic, between Canada (51 degrees W) and the heart of Siberia (87 degrees E). Again, in nearly every case, the same one-way adjustments have been made, to show warming up to 1 degree C or more higher than was indicated by the data that was actually recorded. This has surprised no one more than Traust Jonsson, who was long in charge of climate research for the Iceland met office (and with whom Homewood has been in touch). Jonsson was amazed to see how the new version completely “disappears” Iceland’s “sea ice years” around 1970, when a period of extreme cooling almost devastated his country’s economy.
One of the first examples of these “adjustments” was exposed in 2007 by the statistician Steve McIntyre, when he discovered a paper published in 1987 by James Hansen, the scientist (later turned fanatical climate activist) who for many years ran Giss. Hansen’s original graph showed temperatures in the Arctic as having been much higher around 1940 than at any time since. But as Homewood reveals in his blog post, “Temperature adjustments t***sform Arctic history”, Giss has turned this upside down. Arctic temperatures from that time have been lowered so much that that they are now dwarfed by those of the past 20 years.
Homewood’s interest in the Arctic is partly because the “vanishing” of its polar ice (and the polar bears) has become such a poster-child for those trying to persuade us that we are threatened by runaway warming. But he chose that particular stretch of the Arctic because it is where ice is affected by warmer water brought in by cyclical shifts in a major Atlantic current – this last peaked at just the time 75 years ago when Arctic ice retreated even further than it has done recently. The ice-melt is not caused by rising global temperatures at all.
Of much more serious significance, however, is the way this wholesale manipulation of the official temperature record – for reasons GHCN and Giss have never plausibly explained – has become the real elephant in the room of the greatest and most costly scare the world has known. This really does begin to look like one of the greatest scientific scandals of all time.

And all so they can tax your ass.

But the president said g****l w*****g is the most dangerous threat to us all. Guess he couldn't make enough money off of terrorism

"Have you wondered why is Boston under 6 feet of snow if the world is getting hotter?" Why, no. Everyone knows that Bostonians have cold personalities, so it seems perfectly normal to me. New Yorkers are scattered types, so their weather is too. Californians are into any kind of sex they can get, so their weather is warm to hot. See how that all makes sense? No? Me neither.

     However, WFOC does have my sympathy. My 77+° weather is becoming tiresome. I would appreciate some rain, even snow for the grass and other plants.

Boy, you sure know how to hurt a guy and sound like the victim all at the same time. What a talent!
As for me, here in the highlands of So. Calif, the nights are still chilly but the days are becoming truly glorious. The hills are all green already and it's actually Spring here, in early February.

So you warm-hearted people in Boston, go make sno-cones and slushies while you can.

Boston is under 6 feet of snow because that's what c*****e c****e scientists predicted. There would be more e*****e w*****r as the earth desperately tries to correct the damage humans have caused.

Nice copy and paste, but this is who you're put you're trust in.

In all the years I've been on boards like this, I've YET to see any conservative denialist list an expert with enough respect and credentials worthy of dismissing over 99% of all scientists.

This hack is no exception:

The superhuman cock-ups of Christopher Booker

Quote:
The journalist makes so many errors that you would be forgiven for thinking he did it deliberately to waste everyone's time

Does Christopher Booker exist? Or is he simply a device invented to waste as much of other people's time as possible? Might he in fact be a computer programme randomly generating nonsense in order to keep scientists, environmentalists and public health campaigners so busy refuting it that they can't get on with what they ought to be doing? I ask because it seems almost impossible that one man could make so many superhuman cock-ups.
Some people claim to have met him, and my friends at Private Eye swear that a man of that name has been working alongside them for 50 years. Veteran journalists assert that there was once a real Christopher Booker, who was capable of intelligent and even penetrating journalism, and that the man who wears his clothes today bears no relationship to the one they once knew. Has he been replaced by a replicant, remotely controlled by an evil genius in a concrete fortress, surrounded by a piranha-stocked moat? Or has he simply been playing to the gallery for so long that he can no longer distinguish between fact and fiction?
In either case, scarcely a week goes by in which he fails to publish at least one excruciating howler. It doesn't matter what the subject is: whether it is asbestos or the European Union, speeding or the family courts, he makes such a remarkable concatenation of mistakes that, if he didn't take himself so seriously, you could almost swear he was doing it deliberately........

The mistakes he made in his last column almost compare to his all-time cock-up of cock-ups, in which he pointed out, in February 2008, that "Arctic ice isn't vanishing after all." The "warmists", he said, had made much of the fact that in September 2007 northern hemisphere sea ice cover had shrunk to the lowest level ever recorded. But now the ice cover had bounced back, proving how wrong they were. He even published a graph to demonstrate that the ice had indeed expanded between September and January. In other words, Booker appeared incapable of distinguishing between summer and winter.
The journalist makes so many errors that you would... (show quote)

The guy, doesn't even know the difference between summer and winter for God's sake.

Western WA is in the 50's, crocus', tulips, hyacinth, daffodils all popping up in the yards. Two years running w/o a ski season. No snow on The Cascades or Olympics presage a dry summer. Those mountains are normally our defacto "reservoirs." But, is this really "man caused?"
