Every Republic fails when the citizens realize that they can v**e themselves generous gifts from the national treasury and every Republic is followed by a Dictatorship.

So, our Republic is a bit over 200 years, the politicians we've elected have wiped out our treasury so maybe the only way to solve our problems is with a 'benevolent' dictator at the helm.
