When you choose the wrong way to try to get your point across people won't listen - and there may be other unintended consequences.

Honestly, he should have received a 30 month sentence.

If she had smeared it on the actual painting I would have advocated for more than that. As it was only on the glass covering it I think the sentence was pretty fair, as it also included paying for the damage and being kept out of any national museums or monuments for two years (that would be worse to me than the 60 days - but then, I wouldn’t have done it in the first place, even though I am very concerned about what we’ve done and are doing to the planet.

“Joanna Smith, 54, of Brooklyn, New York, got 60 days of prison time out of a possible maximum sentence of five years for defacing the exhibit, the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Washington, D.C., said in a release.

Judge Amy Berman Jackson also ordered Smith to serve 24 months of supervised release and 150 hours of community service, with 10 hours that must involve cleaning graffiti.

The judge also ordered Smith to pay restitution for the damage to the exhibit and barred her from entering the nation's capital and all museums and monuments for two years.”

I question the legality of barring her from the District of Columbia.

Barring her from the other venues is the correct decision.

Wow… I didn’t notice that until you mentioned it. Yes, I agree with you about DC. That’s weird.

I can almost hear the judge or sheriff in old Dodge City -
“Leave town and don’t come back…. or we’ll hang yuh!”
(hyperbole)

I am seriously dubious that would pass muster on appeal.
