Former Otero County commissioner Couy Griffin was well-known for using multiple equestrian caravans to support former President Donald Trump. But according to the Associated Press, he is currently the sole elected politician prohibited from holding office by the 14th Amendment’s “i**********n” clause.

Griffin was the first person ousted from office under a 14th Amendment clause in over a century when he was placed on trial in a state district court in 2022. After the Civil War, this clause was drafted to exclude former Confederates from serving in the government.
