"Dr. Rand Paul Sends Letters to Fifteen Federal Agencies after Discovering their Knowledge of Risky DEFUSE Project
"This past week, as Ranking Member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee (HSGAC), I sent letters to several agencies requesting additional information on their knowledge and involvement regarding the DEFUSE project, a 2018 grant proposal led by EcoHealth Alliance and the W***n Institute of V******y.

"The DEFUSE project was submitted to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) under the PREventing Emerging Pathogenic Threats (PREEMPT) program and proposed to insert a furin cleavage site into a c****av***s to create a novel chimeric v***s that would have been shockingly similar to the C****-** v***s.

"I recently learned this information by obtaining documents indicating at least fifteen agencies participated in a DARPA hosted 'PREEMPT Proposers Day' where potential applicants presented proposals to agency representatives. During this event Peter Daszak of EcoHealth Alliance pitched the DEFUSE project which sought federal funds to 'manipulate known v***ses with spike proteins of novel v***l strains.' The letter also outlines that the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) Rocky Laboratory was listed as a partner in the DEFUSE proposal alongside the W***n Institute of V******y.

"At least 15 federal agencies knew from the beginning of the p******c that EcoHealth Alliance and the W***n Institute of V******y were seeking federal funding in 2018 to create a v***s genetically very similar if not identical to C****-**. Disturbingly, not one of these 15 agencies spoke up to warn us that the W***n Institute of V******y had been pitching this research.

"Shame on all those who covered up the DEFUSE project ! Of course, they all should be punished but likely won’t. At the very least, though, the perpetrators should be made to admit the t***h and Congress should finally put in place sufficient oversight to make sure dangerous g**n of f******n experiments are sufficiently vetted and, if necessary, prevented.

Where does Dr. T. Laane of Cold Spring Harbor on Long Island (south of Plum Island) funded by the Carnegie Institute with Dr. E. N. Pavlovsky, later Laanes' lab at the University of Indiana, fit into this phage research (now classed as g**n of f******n research)?
