Again - if you dig into the "employment situation" data on the BLS site you can look at charts for all the info you are referencing.
You can choose to believe it's wrong or incorrect but it's there for the taking, including historic charts for each metric.
Re 2nd jobs or PT jobs, is it possible that part of the reason for that is because many companies know the rules re OT and health insurance and choose to keep the hours down for the majority of their employees so they can save $$?
