Cox, the chairman of the New York Republican State Committee, is a board member of the “League of Conservation V**ers” (LCV), a group that oversees a network of at least five PACs with liberal affiliations. These PACs are linked to a larger national network of far-left Super PACs, including the “Beat Trump Climate Unity Fund.”
The primary objectives of these PACs are to support Democratic and far-left politicians like Rashida Talib, Ayanna Pressley, Letitia James, Tom Suozzi, and Kirsten Gillibrand. These politicians have received significant financial contributions and endorsements from the PACs backed by Cox.
LCV funds left-leaning candidates and supports Never Trump PACs such as the “Beat Trump Climate Unity Fund,” which aimed to raise funds for the 2020 p**********l nominee who would face President Trump in the general e******n.
In 2020, LCV spent $42 million opposing President Trump, with $10 million specifically allocated for this purpose and $7.2 million in support of Joe Biden. The PAC network also invested $19.7 million in Senate races backing Democratic candidates during that year.
In the 2018 e******n, Kirsten Gillibrand received a $13,000 endorsement and donation from the LCV. This organization has formed partnerships with European companies Orsted and Equinor, known for promoting offshore wind turbines – a concept criticized by the former President as unsightly and harmful to birds. These groups are aligned with the controversial “Green New Deal” and are considered “corporate partners” of LCV, where Cox serves on the board.
The current Biden administration has collaborated with New York Governor Kathy Hochul, New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, and Democratic majorities in both state legislatures to allow European corporations to build offshore wind turbines close to American coastlines.
These turbines are not only visually unappealing and pose risks to wildlife, but they have also been associated with health issues such as cancer in humans, although this is not definitively proven. Additionally, their susceptibility to foreign cyberattacks raises national security concerns.
LCV’s donations have favored Democratic candidates like Kirsten Gillibrand while aligning with environmental groups advocating for policies like offshore wind turbines and the Green New Deal. These initiatives could potentially harm the economy if implemented.
Cox orchestrated the se******n of Sapraicone as the Republican nominee through a closed-door convention in Binghamton in February. This exclusive gathering of around 250 individuals, primarily county chairpersons and lacking regular v****g members of the public, was coerced by Cox and his followers to endorse Sapraicone as the chosen candidate. The conflict arises from Cox’s financial support of Sapraicone’s opponent, juxtaposed with Sapraicone’s portrayal as a Trump supporter and a critic of Kirstin Gillibrand’s policies.
The endorsement practices of LCV raise doubts about the authenticity of any candidate affiliated with Cox in challenging Democrats like Gillibrand. Both Cox and Sapraicone are depicted as deceitful figures aiming to maintain New York’s Democratic dominance at any expense. Discussions within Cox’s camp, including statements attributed to Jason Weingartner, suggest that winning the New York Senate race is not their primary objective; rather, they are focused on avoiding causing harm.
In essence, Cox is promoting Sapraicone as the party’s nominee despite knowing his slim chances of success, thereby potentially securing an easy victory for Gillibrand due to Sapraicone’s perceived unelectability compared to her significant presence in Virginia over New York.
This situation mirrors the NY-03 special e******n, where Cox allegedly pressured Nassau County Chairman, Joseph Cairo, to spearhead the removal of former Congressman George Santos. In Santos’ place, the Cox-led State Party nominated Mazi Pilip, who was deemed unelectable and had recently been a registered Democrat. This move easily handed back the House seat to Democratic control.
The outcome could have been different if Cox had understood why Santos was able to win in a district that had previously heavily favored Biden. It wasn’t due to “Lee Zeldin” being on the ticket, as Cox suggested at a Manhattan event, but because Santos fully embraced President Trump and held one of the most conservative records among New York’s Republican House delegation.
Despite this lesson, Sapraicone persisted with identity politics and wrongly attributed the special e******n loss to Long Islanders not being receptive to a black female candidate – an unfounded claim given NY-03’s support for Santos, a Latino and openly gay Republican.
But just when it seemed Cox couldn’t make worse candidate choices than Mazi Pilip, enter Mike Sapraicone. A former NYPD officer with a controversial history including accusations of abusive policing and racial profiling. In 2021, Sapraicone was accused of coercing a false confession that led to John Majors being wrongfully imprisoned for two decades. The resulting civil rights violation led New York City to pay a $3.3 million settlement.
Aside from his policing controversies, Sapraicone has financially supported various politicians who share an anti-Trump sentiment. Despite Letitia James’ previous campaign promises against Trump and her investigations into his businesses, Sapraicone donated $1,000 to her in 2022.
Former Congressman Peter King was incensed by a recent donation made by Sapraicone, a candidate in the race and a supporter of Nikki Haley. King went as far as publicly calling on Sapraicone to withdraw from the race during an appearance on Sid Rosenberg’s show. King stated that he believed Sapraicone should step aside, and if he didn’t, he would ask President Trump to intervene. The tipping point for King was the actions of Tish James, who he claimed was targeting President Trump.
Financial records from the FEC also showed that Sapraicone had made significant donations to other political figures, including $10,000 to former Governor Andrew Cuomo and over $75,000 to Nassau County Democrats. Additionally, Sapraicone had contributed $35,000 to Congressman Tom Suozzi, despite running against George Santos at the time.
Sapraicone defended these donations by stating that as a businessman like Trump, he needed to maintain relationships with individuals from both parties. However, his recent contributions have predominantly gone to politicians who oppose Trump, such as former Congressman John Katko.
Furthermore, it was noted that Sapraicone had criticized President Trump and his allies like Mayor Rudy Giuliani in both public and private settings—actions that seemed to align with his donation patterns.
On his radio show, ‘Cop Talk,’ Sapraicone called President Trump “a bully” and “stubborn,” comparing him negatively to Andrew Cuomo. He also said that he finds it difficult to say to his kids, “Trump is a good man.”
He has also complained “with his ego and the way [President Trump] is, I can’t see him wanting anybody but himself to be President.”
During a screening for the Republican nomination to run for the NY-03 seat, Sapraicone reportedly told a town committee, “I could never v**e for Trump for President.”
He has also badmouthed President Trump’s friends. At a recent private campaign event in Westchester, eyewitnesses report Sapraicone referring to Mayor Giuliani as being “owned” and “corrupt.” Talking about himself, Mayor Giuliani, and President Trump, Sapraicone reportedly boasted, “I’m the only person who’s never been arrested.”
He was also said to have bragged at the meeting, according to eyewitnesses, but with no evidence, that he had already obtained donations from Republican Senators Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn.
Readers outraged by these revelations are encouraged to call Ed Cox’s Albany headquarters at (518) 462-2601 and DEMAND that he replaces Mike Sapraicone, another RINO who suffers from Trump Derangement Syndrome, with an unapologetic America First candidate with a well-documented track record of supporting President Trump.
