We are having cake and ice cream. The large number of candles caused a small fire, hence no candles on the cake.

That is one delicious looking cake :!: :P

Funny story about dog food. My mother was feeding our dog a dark brown (looked like egg noodle), it was so long ago I forgot the brand and what they were called, but other dog owners may know them. Anyway, my uncle lived with us, and he fixed some breakfast for himself. When we discovered what he was eating , his breakfast was about gone. All he said was, "I thought they were a funny color for corn flakes." He didn't mention how they tasted.

Speaking of corn flakes, have you noticed a change in the taste of some cereals? Oatmeal is terrible, ok for cookies, but not fit to eat otherwise. It's probably from Mexico now. Think I'll call them and ask.

Try what are called steel cut or cross cut oatmeal. My neighborhood is an oatmeal afficcanado. She, also, uses milk in the cooking process. You can add your own cinnamon or fresh fruit.

As much as it pains me to do so, I have to go along with AuntiE on this...the steel cut or cross cut oatmeal has proven to be my favorite.

The minute you said I thought of the ones I order from this site..Not promoting it, I just love their oats..Your right, BearK, what we get now in the grocery store is just not the same, doesn't even cook the same anymore and other than cookies that mask the taste its not worth buying..I found this site through a nutritionist for my mother and must say I am glad she recommended it... Their Rolled Oats are excellent as are:
the 5 grain
Steel Cut (Irish)
Smash Blend, I really love..

I also tried some of their "flavored oats"
Spice Cake, Cinnamon Roll and Pumpkin Spice.....When I tell you other than a bit of milk you need nothing else, you don't....

There are no fancy shmancy restaurants within one hundred miles, but we did go to a really nice Indian restaurant, which we both love and was only forty miles away each way. now, you know why both of us are good cooks, we like to eat but not to pay for extra gas. She didn't pretend that she forgot my birthday though as I did about our anniversary, so I guess I won't dare to pretend when her birthday comes up in the middle of June, or she will be MAD, and she does have a solid cast iron frypan of her very own.

Lol!! Years ago, there was a little gal who worked the drive thru at our bank, who kept a box of milk bones in the window. I requested a different 'flavor' every week untill I had them all covered. I always took a bite of them while she watched just to make her laugh. They all tast the same.

Let's face it, I bet you've eaten more suspicious sounding things then carob chocolate.

Do you know what's all in BBQ sauce, if it's the 'house' special - bet they don't give out their secret ingredients. ;-)

I can guess, with some certainty, where the idea of a solid cast iron frypan for other than cooking purposes came from.

Eastern Indian food is heavily seasoned, isn't it? Sage, turmeric, tamarind and cumin, I would assume...among others :?:
