This seems to happen with a blue President and blue governor.

I was totally shocked when we moved back here after 20 years. I can't believe the rent and house prices here. We've got one of the cheapest apartments in town before income based and theirs are nicer.

So you are an Oregonian . Yep life ain't so easy here . I own my home outright -- worked hard and struggled at times but I got it paid for . I am lucky . When I moved to Coos Bay in 1983 I paid $195 a month for a 2 bedroom duplex apartment then saw steady increases after that . I soon found that it was cheaper to buy than it was to rent .. My place is worth double what I paid for it and now affordable housing is hard to find . People are paying $1000 a month for a dilapidated trailer house with garbage in the yard left by the previous tenants .I don't know what happened but I know I can't sell .

I recently retired to the small red city where I was raised.

Every street is safe to walk any time, day or night, and you won't find a single pothole anywhere.

A crime wave is 2 speeding tickets issued the same day. There has never been a r**t, never!

Property taxes are $1,675.20 per 100K assessed value, and we have no state income tax.

The winters do get cold and hard, but the people are warm and friendly.

Here in Mobile(AL) and the surrounding area there is plenty of inexpensive housing and rents are very affordable. We just bought a very nice place w/my VA Loan with 3acres. My wife was raised here and so far I love it(I grew up in suburban Houston). The culture is fantastic as are the people. We have noticed a lot of seniors/retirees moving here over the last year. There are of course problems as in any urban area but overall things are good. Even for a group of liberals.... (my family)and a growing number of others. I am glad i retired here we have good schools, plenty of jobs etc. Well I got to run I have class at Noon. Oh and I almost forgot...MardiGras season began Sunday first parades coming up. Best of all Mobile is not the insane free for all NewOrleans is..A Lot more family oriented and twice as fun IMO.

Oh, I agree. We were going to take out a VA loan and get a house when we came back up here but you know the interest rates and home prices.
We took a loss selling our home in NM because so many i******s moved to our little neck of the woods and trashed it. Gunfire all the time and loud mariachi music all the time. No offense to the music, I just happen to h**e it, especially at 2am.

We currently live in Lebanon and rent is outrageous. We live in a very small, one bedroom apartment and still pay 1100 a month. It's basically a large home made into 4 apartments with very thin walls. Pillows behind the headboard, if you know what i mean. A home at the moment is not feasible. Hopefully soon.

BUT, you're going to ask me over there for bonfires on the beach, huh???????

I was a little south of ABQ. After awhile, if you spoke only English, you were the minority. It was hard trying to calm frustrated people down when you couldn't understand what they wanted. I can't imagine myself living in Mexico without knowing Spanish.

It was fine in 2003. Everyone pretty much got along, no major crimes, then it just went hell.

I am not a r****t but I came to dislike our fine folks to the south of us.
Please, any Spanish/Mexican persons on here, don't take offense. I am just stating my opinion from what I experienced in JUST that town/village regarding i*****l i*******ts.

I was 1/2 raised in a town of 500 in central Nebraska. Don't think I'll ever go back there.

I understand the winters. We had one that was-30 or more for a week and throwing on a pair of coveralls to break the ice so the cows could drink. I think it was pretty much around 0 all month. I think it was around 1983 or so.

I reckon that was the winter of '81-'82, I remember it well, spent it feeding 1,000 head of cattle alone,

on a ranch without a heated building to warm-up in. By the time I got home at night, my body temp

would be in the mid-nineties. When your brain cools of that much, you begin to hallucinate, and that's scary.

80 head of cattle just laid down and froze to death that winter,

That would really, really suck the big hairy one. I know it was rough. We didn't have that many cattle, they were split amongst family, but everyone lost heads that year including us.

I had a good friend who lived in a little place called Neiligh . it was near Norfolk --the locals called it Norfork.
