The Big Story

Gas prices on the decline ahead of the holidays

Gasoline prices on Tuesday averaged $3.14 nationally, down nine cents from a week ago and 23 cents from a month ago.

Andy Lipow, president of consulting firm Lipow Oil Associates, said the decline “showed that OPEC+ is struggling to balance oil supply and demand in light of the surprising increase in supply from the U.S., Brazil and Guyana, as well as disappointing demand from China,” Lipow said.

Those declines have meant “good news for the consumer” at the pump, Lipow said, and prices may drop a few cents more over the week.

Domestically, the gas price decline is part of a cycle that has been typical in past years but recently had been absent in the winter months, said Devin Gladden, an AAA spokesperson.

“During the fall and winter, we see days become a lot shorter, inclement weather increasing, drivers spending less time on the road,” a trend that typically drives oil demand down through the end of the year, he said.

Ok I was being Sarcastic . . We are the number one oil producing country in the world. Why we import oil is beyond me especially if we are selling it too .

I believe you could say the futures market.

The whole idea is to discourage driving. That alone reduces demand. Thus Biden can claim to have brought down prices.

Biden must get credit for the low gas prices. Low demand equals lower gas prices. Low demand is caused by high inflation of everything else a person needs to live. Then I understand that real estate taxes have gone through the roof, mine went up by 15% or more. The only place I like most people can reduce spending is reducing the unnecessary travel. So buy less gasoline. That brings the gasoline prices down.

I am happy to pay less for gas--Must be on account of The Donald saying Drill drill drill ! Now the United States is the highest oil producing country in the world .

Just to inform all of you, for many decades the Congress made sure “ its gas was at 0.86 cents per gallon. Gee, it was quite high for us - the Masters of these corrupt scum.
Just thought everyone needed a ‘boost’ for the Christmas season.

T***h is Joe had nothing to do with the increase and he had little to do with the decrease.. his record drilling may have had a small affect but not much...

Not necessarily. All depends on the reason for the price drop. If it’s due to a slowing economy, not so great.

Biden does not have any control over prices. I heard last week OPEC is planning to decrease oil supplies. So this may be temporary. It could also mean prices are going to be stable.

The price of gas has almost ALWAYS dropped from roughly Oct. through Dec., slo' Joe is simply crowing about how he made the sun rise this morning. I'm sure he'll admit the error of his ways when prices start rising in the spring.

Free market doesn’t affect oil prices.the price goes where they want it to go .supply and demand has been gone for years. Otherwise we would’ve had lower prices all along, caused by the competition of a free market .

Gee you mean the mean money grabbing oil companies feel like that don't want oil to stay >$100/brl, so they decided all on their own to drop prices? How nice of them!

Of course government policy affects energy prices. Damn you’re dumb.
