Jesus was God too. I wonder if most Christians know what the liturgy and celebration of the 7 candle menorah is all about?

Traditional Jewish interpretations see it as a symbol of God’s Creation of the world, with its six curved branches representing the six days of creation while the center seventh branch stands for the seventh day, Shabbat.

I thought so too. I didn't know any of this until today myself. I first saw where some Catholic churches in the distant past brought out a menorah during Hanukkah and it tweaked my curiosity but I don't believe it's in practice anywhere today with Christian denominations except the Assemblies of Yahweh, Messianic Jews, some congregations of the Church of God (Seventh Day), the World Mission Society Church of God, Hebrew Roots, Pentecostals and a variety of Church of God. Since the Ethiopian Orthodox Church had such close ties with ancient Judaism I thought perhaps it may have been part of their Tradition. Yet I found that the Jewish community in Ethiopia had lost the connection with the different communities around the world before the destruction of the second temple and, consequently, was not aware of the oral Torah. Therefore, the Ethiopian Jews did not celebrate Hanukkah and other holidays.

I just did, padremike!

- lighting candles for eight nights as a Christian - celebrating Jesus Christ!

Who was, is, and always will be the Light of the World.

Add to that a platter of crabmeat/potato Latkes - a bowl of Matzo Ball soup!

Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

The traditional seven candle Menorah is not normally used for Hanukkah, Padremike.

A special nine candle Menorah, sometimes called a Hanukkiah is used for the eight nights of Hanukkah.

The ninth candle is called the Shamash (servant) and is used each night to light the other candles, The shamash – the "attendant" candle that is used to kindle the other lights – is set apart from the other candles (often higher or lower), on the ninth branch of the menorah.

(Spelling of Hanukkah is optional - Also known as: Ḥanukka, Chanukah, Chanukkah, Feast of Dedication, Feast of the Maccabees, Festival of Lights).

Info gleaned in the past while serving as an accountant at the B'nai B'rith [Sons of the Covenant] Hillel Foundation
