School principal executed for raping/sexually molesting 22 girls
On November 7, a former primary school principal in Gansu province was executed by lethal injection following a death penalty verdict for the crimes of rape and sexual molestation of minors.
According to Jiupai News, a news portal based in Hubei province, Zhang Longji, the former principal, was convicted of raping five girls aged 8 to 12 and sexually molesting 17 girls aged 8 to 14. These offenses took place during his tenure as a director of teaching and discipline and later as the principal of a local primary school in Jingning county, Gansu province.
After a thorough legal process, the Pingliang Intermediate People's Court found Zhang guilty of rape and sentenced him to death, along with lifelong deprivation of political rights. He also received an additional 10-year prison sentence for child molestation. The court justified the imposition of the death penalty and lifelong deprivation of political rights based on the severity of the crimes.
Despite Zhang's appeal, the High People's Court of Gansu rejected it, affirming the death sentence. The Supreme People's Court subsequently approved the decision, leading to the execution on November 7.
To assist the affected students, local education authorities have initiated support measures, with specific details being kept confidential due to the involvement of minors. As reported by Redstar News, a news portal based in Sichuan province, the affected school has been dissolved and merged with another institution.
