I personally beleave that the Greatest school of learning is the University of Life and Reality. If people truly desire to learn something the best instructor in the the world is themselves. If the history of America has shown the world anything it is that the path to education is best done by those people who have made the decision to learn something. Some of the greatest leaders of this nations where people that made a self determination to educate themselves. The majority of the students that attend college do so for the purpose of obtaining a sheet of paper saying that they learned something. When these same people leave school and enter the reality of life they find out very fast that what they learned in school has almost nothing to do with the reality of life. Most of them spend the vast majority of their time simply trying to find a way to pay off their student loans.

Universities can serve a legitimate purpose. How about only providing student loans to those studying the fields teaching, medicine, science & technology. Eliminate or greatly reduce grants for the 'arts' and 'humanities'. As for athletics, if you're any good you don't need to go to college, let the pro's pick up the tab for training you. Also, more trade schools are certainly needed.
