Great civilizations were built on the backs of the oppressed.

With successive failures.

Civilization, and I am going out on a limb here, civilization are only sustainable if we help each other.

I have no examples of the human species experiencing long term sustainable.

Ants cooperate and have been around a lot longer then us and will probably witness our demise.

Aggression is not sustainable.

No civilization is sustainable..
Ultimately, their success leads to a weakening of their will...
Decadence...

It's not aggression, but complacency, that is unsustainable..

The complacency is a result of the good times cycle.

If no human civilization is sustainable our demise is eminent.

The human element will be exponentially different in a thousand years from now then we are from 1923.

Our demise isn't eminent..
"Our" demise is eminent...
We're a very resilient species... IMHO

We will evolve and continue or we join the unknown number of species that did not. Fossils abound.

Fossils represent the evolution of species...Not their demise...

Old enough to be petrified.

True. There is a progression. What we have are examples of that progression.

But many species have gone extinct and humans are not immune.

It is awareness. We have an innate sense we are superior.

Who are the good guys, those that want to serve? Few amongst the majority of aspirants that have ulterior motives.

"Margret Mead said, helping someone through difficulty is where civilization starts and we are at our best when we serve others."

Damon Knight wrote a short story about that topic. It was later used by ‘The Twilight Zone’.
The sentence by Mead is a double entendre.

Our nations service to others is not enduring if it leads to our own destruction. True service must not only be helpful. It must be realistic and sustainable or it will fail over time.
